I have to do a (current event/something interest) for my finance class. Other people have done ratio analysis stuff, someone did CEO's of the year, some other people did some boring crap... anyone have any ideas?

I went looking on some of the business magazines but can't really find anything that stands out.

You could do a side by side comparison of the Japanese and American financial systems, with a brief analysis of the corresponding economic effects.

Seems like it might be a lot for 15 minutes but maybe not.

Thanks for getting the ball rolling Zakath15

It's finance, whatya expect?

You could do demonstration of the cyclical stock market and maybe educate some of these dimwits who think that the market should/will always go up.

My dad is the Director of Finance for a fortune 50 and one big thing he's had to deal with is the new standards put in place after 9/11 / Enron. Audits are run by vultures now that will pick apart every single decision he's made the past year. You could compare the new environment of responsibility to how it used to be in the early 90's.

Globalization.
Kinda economical but is very interesting, unless you are into talking about pure stat's, then go with the finance.

Rawoutput also has a good idea, You could talk about how Enron was the stepping stone for further gov't involvement in business pratices, or you could even talk about rising costs in health care.
Can you be a bit more specific than just finance?

If you haven't been to business 2.0

Red Hering

Those should start you off with current events, guys what other websites can we recommend?

That's a good one. You can show how the government has put more emphasis on "Corporate honesty and intergrity" and the ownership of the financials by the CEOs.

I already spent some time on Business 2.0

I didn't look at the Red Herring site.

Just now when looking for the post Enron stuff I came accross some stuff on transparent reporting. Thinking I might go that route. Any more suggestions before I get started on this.

Try this sight Wharton. Probably good for ideas and research. It's one of my favorite sites. Personally if I was doing something finance I would think about the Fed/Greenspan.
