My company bought about 17 17" KDS Visual Sensations last year. So far, about seven of them have failed. Yes we return them and get them back, but it is not worth the trouble and we will not buy any others. I know the Avitrons are Sony, but we have not used these.

The vs line of kds monitors is far worse than avitron. A guy who works at kds canada says they get 1 avitron for every 25 vs monitors.

I just got my KDS Avitron 19" FD Trinitron today from onvia.com, and it did not come with any cables or manuals. This is the first time I've seen a monitor not come with cables, is this normal?

No it is not normal. Make sure you get it replaced. How is the quality of the monitor?

My older monitor didn't have a seperate cable to go from the monitor to the video card, so i need to get one before i can test out the quality.
there's a nick on the top of the monitor, i dunno if i did that while taking it out or if it was there before i took the monitor out of the box.

We bought a VS 195 at work for AutoCAD use. I'll gladly keep my 17" Dell Trinitron. The KDS looks very grainy - like those first 14" VGA monitors. I've not seen the Avitron line, but the big box stores typically stock the cheaper VS line.

Yeah you should have got the cable and manual. Onvia.com will pick it up for free and deliver a new one. Its funny how kds uses very thick foam for packaging and sony uses crappy packaging materials. A guy on the forum here had 3 different g400's dented because of poor packing. Also the kds dosent have the shaking image problem sony's do at high resolutions. The g400 does have dual inputs but if you dont need dual inputs then the kds is the way to go!

I have compared the KDS to the Sony monitors. I currently own a 19" Sony GDM-400PS. It's a great monitor.

When you compare the specs of the KDS versus the Sony, what you will find is that the Sony offers better refresh rates across the boards. In addition I believe the dot pitch on the Sony is a wee bit better, though I don't remember for sure.

My monitor came with a 3 year warranty and has been moved from Korea to the Washington state, USA and then to Maryland state, USA. With all the abuse the red pigment stopped working. I called Sony and they said it was covered under warranty (parts and labor). I drove to their repair place and got my monitor back in 1 week ... no charge what-so-ever.

My next monitor WILL be a Sony.

I guess I should weigh in here, too. I have 2 of the KDS 17" Trinitron monitors, an AV7-T and a new AV7-TF with the flat screen. I like them both, having had the non flat screen for over a year and the newer one for about 3 months. They are probably not as nice as a Sony or mitsubishi, or even a good samsung, but I bought them because they were the best value. I picked up the older AV7-T from Computers4sure for $177 + $17 shipping. I bought it sight unseen because it had a Trinitron tube and seemed like a bargain, so I took a chance. At first I didn't like it, but it has grown on me to the point when I built my last system, I spotted one of the new ones at ONvia.com for $219 with free shipping, so I got it and am very happy with it. So I guess you pay your money and you take your chances. So far I am very happy with my KDS Trinitron monitors, for what it is worth.

No the sony dosent have higher refresh rates than the kds. Stop making up stuff. They have pretty much the same refresh rates across the board. Do your research next time.

As far as I'm concerned, my KDS monitor works great. I have a 17" Avitron AV-7TF, the flatscreen kind. I bought it at Best Buy by comparing all the monitors there and picking the one that looked the sharpest and had the best quality for the money. Sure, I could have paid 100 more for a sony or viewsonic, but I noticed almost no difference.

The monitor runs a little warm. I've never had a heat problem with it though.

(the top makes a nice handwarmer for those cold winter days)
