Seems like the Insignias have rocketed in price since I seen them before, the now 73 dollar ones?
Is there any other alternatives?

the little pioneer bookshelf speakers at CC are pretty good. you may want to give those a try. i think they are about 20 bucks a piece. or look at frys, usually they have some on sale.

typically the polk recommendation is the safest, but do understand the limitations of that budget range (dont expect too much)

HMM, wonder what the shipping is on those Polks, I might have to audition some speakers before I buy them. Good thing I am not buying them for my 7.1 system.... Making a budget 2.0 system. I want the speakers just for the computer pretty much, but the computer is my source. My 7.1 system just does "parties" and HT work. I just want the 2.0 system for play/better soundstage than my 7.1 system.

HMM 60 shipped, I may be able to buy them though, but I think I will buy some SR-80 headphones instead for now.

Any other suggestions?

Maybe Infinity Beta 10s from Ebay or Amazon.

PS Don't buy the Cherry Beta10s... I am trying to win a pair and don't need the competition.

Eh, I won't try and steal your bidding booty, but these blacks look nice!

These are cheap and may be cheap in quality

These look great, and probably sound better than the Sonys

For the low end

More expensive, at $219 a pair, but sound AMAZING for the price, from what I've read.

There were some very nice b-stock deals a little while ago on them which would have put them and Ref 0.5 somewhere close to the ballpark we're talking about, but I have a feeling that $219 + shipping + the backorder wait is going to eliminate them as a possibility for this question ;)

I was looking for that b-stock deal, but it looks like it's gone :(. I was already on their site, so I figured I'd post a link to their bookshelf's anyways :).

Yeah, they were $169/pair I think and Ref 0.5s were $75 each ($150/pair), but that was a couple days ago. They also had X-SLS for $250 I think and my personal favorite, RS850 Sigs for ~$1375 :p

Well right now I am using the center from my Onkyo HTIB and it does sound clear and such, but is still missing the clarity and tight bass I want. Although just the fronts and the sub sound good though for a 2.1 setup.

You may be able to find some nice used Paradigm Atoms for that price. I bought a pair of mini monitors last year for $65 plus shipping on ebay. They are fantastic.

GAH, I don't really like to order from eBay much unless they are still under warranty from the manufacturer, and if they are they will have to have the original sales order, I mean that is just in case I decide to push the speakers :p

Well you need to listen to ANY speaker before you buy them!!!!

I just can't understand people buying speakers without listening to them. Maybe polk's site can find a dealer. But the the smaller LSi series are quite a gem (have listened to them).

I don't listen to headphones before I buy them, so what would be different with speakers? I just think the whole auditioning business is just for people who are going to be buying multiple pairs, or are really making a large purchase.

don't underestimate the little pioneers. they do have good sound for the price, and the transients are much better than the polk R15 and they over all sound better than the onkyo 2 woofer/one tweeter HTIB speakers. i use a pair i got for 20 bucks for my surrounds and they work great.

Which ones should I buy? The bigger or smaller woofer ones?
The bigger woofer ones are too expensive it seems.

either the 6 1/4 or the 5 1/4 in woofer. the bigger one will have a bit better range. but either will work. what kind of amp are you going to hook them up to?

A Pioneer VSX 401, I am guessing it has around 75W and it's analog so I can use the Wolfsen DAC on my AV710 :p It sounds great as is, just imagine both of them in front of you. (the center is on my bed pointing towards my back)

My dad has some later year Pioneers from about 2004 and they sound great I think even with his crappy source. (analog TV RCA out :p)

JBL E20. Really excellent speaker for the price and size. Really, read up on the reviews for these babies. I use a few pairs for main system and for my PC. If you can get a deal, I would also recommend Infinity ref. 2000.1, I have several pairs of these and they kick ass.

I think I will buy the Pioneers when I get a chance, I just bought the SR-80s for 80 dollars shipped just today. If I got the iGrados I could have got some nice speakers :p
