I need some advice

Hey, I'm new here and just needed a question answered if I may.

I read the above sticky, but it didn't answer my question.

Basically, I've decided to build myself a new PC. I'm not new to the building a PC thing, but I've never had to worry as much as I do now about my components.

My specs will be:
ABIT KN8 SLI ATX mobo
Athlon 64 X2 4200+ dual core processor
GeForce 6800GS
1gig of ram

Needless to say, I've put a lot of money in right now. Way more than I can really afford, but hey :D

Anyway, I need some suggestions on power supplies. I had originally bought this http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16817255010 to go with my setup, but then I was told (I'm pretty niave about PSU's) that the cheaper the PSu, the more likely it is junk. I went by the few reviews on it on newegg and that's why I originally bought it.

So, needless to say, I'm going to try and cancel it. But if I can't, I'm going to buy a new PSU anyway. I found a Thermaltake 440W PSU for $49.99 (I'm strapped for cash after buying all this stuff) and I'm wondering if that's good enough and powerful enough for me.

If anyone had some good suggestions on what type of PSU I could get for my money (ideally $60 or less, once I get paid...) that will power my new machine, that would be great.

Thanks

Thanks

It must also be mentioned that I giggled at how such a simple reply can contain so much valuable information :D

Yes, but I'm one of those people who likes to take the longest, most annoying route :p

Need further encouragement.

I already ordered that 450W PSU from Fortron.

But, I've recently added some stuff to my PC, or am going to, when I get my PSU, I mean.

Total, I'll have this setup

Althon X2 Dual Core 4200+
GeForce 6800GS
One IDE 5200RPM 80gig HD
One Sata 7200RPM 80gig HD
Creative Labs X-Gamer 5.1
DVD-RW
CD-RW
4 fans

I did a little PSU calculator and it suggested 560W (30extra watts over 530)
Am I okay, or do I need to subtract something?

you will be ok with the fortron but i wouldn't add anything more. those online calculators aren't too accurte. take a look here - http://www.anandtech.com/video/showdoc.aspx?i=2717&p=4

this is total W from the wall for this setup -
ASUS A8R32 ATI RD580 Motherboard
AMD Athlon 64 FX-57
2GB OCZ 2.5:3:3:8 DDR400 RAM
160GB Seagate 7200.7 Hard Drive
600W OCZ PowerStream PSU

and the fotrons and ocz are pretty close in efficiency. you will be a little higher than the one listed with the 6800gs but not much since you went dc

You are perfectly okay. Take PSU calculators with a grain of salt.
