First off.........no links (they didnt show up)

Second, timings (ie, the speed of RAM) does play a difference, but not marginally.

In terms of gaming (lets us BF2 as the example), having faster RAM will only help performance by 2-4% at most.
Having more RAM (lets say 2GB of RAM, even though it may only run at PC2700) will yeild significant results (such as detail and texture settings can jump from low to high in a lot of cases)

As i cannot see the RAM you have, i will say that if its a matter of 1GB of PC3200 vs 2GB of PC2700 (none lower though) i would take the 2GB option

Just get another kit of that then.........as the timings arent far enough off to warrant switching to the gold.
(plus im pretty sure you wouldnt be able to run Cas2 if you got the gold anyways, as itd force Cas2.5 since thats what your current RAM is, so its pointless to get the gold kit)

ok that what i was thinking, one person said that if i get another gig which will make 4x 512 i will have to run at 2T and 166mhz
is this true? and the gold ram is only $2 more

You will have to run at 2T, but not 166mhz ( you can still run at PC3200 speed, 400mhz)

about 1-2% of performance will be lost.......if even

Its just a timing in the RAM, nothing significant, nothing to worry about

Neither.........you will have the same performance that you have now, because even though the Gold RAM is slightly faster, it will only run as fast as ur current RAM can (ie, ur current RAM will bottleneck the Gold slightly)

as i said, the gold is pointless to get, as no matter what you will be running at the same timings as ur current RAM

if you have 4 DDR slots, and only two are used by both 512 sticks, then obviously you will get better performance adding in the dual channel to the setup to fill in the other two. but it doesn't make sense to swap out the original DDR sticks for tha OCZ stuff, they are both 1 gig already, and the max DDR effectiveness would only touch DDR400 architecture.

ok, and i was also thinking about maybe selling my current ram, and combining the money with the money i have now, to get 2x 1gb sticks
would that give me more performance over 4x 512mbs?

Id go that route, as a future upgrade will then be open without having to sell off and rebuy.
