I need pots/pans. What should I get?

Stainless steel with a copper bottom, and tempered glass lids FTW. Make potstickers. yumm.

Also, he already has cast iron, so yeah he won't be buying that again.

My mom and I both have various farberware pots and pans, and they've worked great for a rather long time! I've pretty sure many of them are as old or older than me at 23. Only exception is I have a saucepan from Ikea, which surprisngly enough is quite good and has faired well the past 4 years. It was originally non-stick, me not knowing that I kinda screwed up with it but all the teflon should be gone now after scrubbing it many times with sos pads.

Personally I'm not fond of nonstick due to having to use plastic utensils, more careful care, and it won't really last so it will eventually come off in your food anyway. No thanks, I can let it soak in water for a bit and scrub it off with an SOS pad if things go badly.

If you are just as likely to forget them on burner either Cuisinart are fine.
Cast Iron, properly seasoned and cared for, is the "best" nonstick.

We have some Calphalon One Hard-Anodized pans that work really nicely. Expensive, but they provide a nice balance between the advantages of non-stick and "stick" options.

I was going to recommend a nice set of revere pots, but it looks like they shipped production to indonesia and quality has fallen quite a bit.
When I first moved out on my own i bought a large rever copper bottom set like this one

It has been solid performer for the last 20 years, but reading reviews the new ones are light weight and flimsy and the lids dont fit.
If you can find a set made in the US, buy it.

Start off by soaking the wild rabbit in vinegar overnight. It will get rid of that musky smell and tenderize the meat a bit.

Crate & Barrel has some very pretty pan sets. How well they work, you tell me...

I had a years-old non-stick Wal-Mart Farberware set that I wasn't overly fond of (well, to be fair, I forgot about 'em on the stove once or twice so the non-stick wasn't quite so non-stick anymore) so I didn't bother bringing it when I moved...but now I need pans again.

I'm looking at this and this at the moment. I'm not overly picky when it comes to non-stick vs stainless. I do have a couple of cast iron pans already as well.

I actually have a 10 piece version of that Cuisinart set. I would prefer to have something nicer but I didn't have the budget. I got the ten piece set on clearance for $100. At that price I think it was a decent deal. So far they perform ok.

bought a stainless steel set from costco, it feels like it'll last us forever. We've had it for 5 years now and it essentially looks like it did when we first got it

Does anyone have non stick pans that are actually non stick?

I've got a couple from Ikea that are 3-4 years old and still going strong.

I make a point not to use metal utensils with them, though. wood spoon, silicon spatula, etc.

I have three of the Cuisinart Stainless cookware pieces - 5 qt saute pan, 12" skillet, and 2 qt saucepan. They making cooking and cleaning easy. You can find plenty of cooking utensils that won't scratch the bottom, like wood or rubber.

I always buy All-clad seconds at TJ Maxx. Over the years I have amassed a set of copper core for about half price. They also have Le Crucet, and normally some cast iron skillets. You just have to go a lot, but it's worth it.
