I am building a new server, and my love for SCSI :D has made me buy 2 pcs CSE-M35S from Supermicro, together with 4 internal SCSI harddisks and a CDROM I need :

a case that can hold 4 internal 3 1/2 and 7 external 5 1/4 bays + one for a floppy drive. The only case I have found is the CM stacker from Coolermaster, but it is not available yet and I want to build my server during easter .... :p

Help, I need somebody .... help

Try using NewEgg's case search (on the left) for your number of 5.25" external bays. This one with 7 external 5.25", 2 external 3.5", and 3 internal 3.5" comes close.

Athenatech/AGPB 800 series (the 811 or 812 should be perfect for your needs), Codegen S-101, 9000 series, Enlight entry-level server - directron has a suitable Enermax. . Lots of others: bowsystem.com, www.yycase.com (Yeong Yang), keypower.com, chenbro.com, etc.n - just a matter of finding a place to buy 'em.
. There is a review of the Athenatech A811BB on the System Cooling site. Worth a look! Newegg seems to be out of the Athenatech but does have the 812 under AGPB. ewiz.com is supposed to carry the full line of Athenatech - but doesn't.

SCSI Vendors:
hypermicro.com (may offer free ground shipping if you mention www.storagereview.com - check the SR site for the latest offer)
centrix-intl.com
pc-pitstop.com
scsi4me.com (offers PayPal as a payment option)
and I can usually find stuff for low bucks on eBay.

Close doesn't cut it.

I need at least 4 internal 3 1/2 inch and 7 external 5 1/4 inch + plus a floppy drive slot (I know ....... do you still need it, but I need)

The Chenbro does cut it, but including freight it is going to cost me close to 400 US and that is without a PSU.

Tried the newegg search ............ search result ...... BLANK, NADA :(

I just got an email back from a supplier that the CM stacker wont arrive in Denmark until 6 weeks from now.

Clille,
. Did you LOOK at the Athenatech 800 series??? It has 7 ext 5" bays, 3 int. 3.5" bays, 2 ext. 3.5" bays (one of which COULD BE USED FOR A HD!). Covers ALL your base (which, of course, belong to us! ;) ). DO check that review I linked above!!! Seems to me that it was made to spec for you...

I would check out an antec rackmount case, I have one and it works wonders, it has 6 external 5.25 drives and 4 external 3.5's as well as a couple more internal 3.5's. I currently have six drives mounted in mine and it works great. It comes with a 400 watt power supply and cost about 200 dollars, it also comes with 3 fans.

He really needs at least the seven 5" bays - two 3-bay, 5 drive SCSI racks and a CD burner. He says so in the top post. Oh ye impetuous youth...

Yeah I just figured for the money the Antec is a good solution and that losing one 5.25 slot was worth it for the price and build quality.

Here
1x3.5 (floppy)
3x5.25 (cage 1)
4x5.25 (CDROM + cage 1)
4x5.25 for either another hot-swap cage for internals, or internal drives on 5.25"-3.5" adapters
2x3.5 above PSU, I'd leave those alone.

Codegen S-101 already suggested in reply #3 - thanks for the link. A really nice big box for the money.

Yeah, but I know how much I prefer descriptions and links vs. just model numbers, and will gloss them over, skipping to links :)

Why not? So what if that 4th 3-1/2" bay is also externally accessible? Heck, if it offends you that much, epoxy the bay cover on you'll have 4 internal 3-1/2", 7 external 5-1/4", and one for a floppy drive.

The NewEgg search for 8 found a case with 7 5-1/4" externals, 1 5-1/4 hidden , 3 internal 3-1/2", and 1 external 3-1/2". Add a mounting kit for a 3-1/2" drive in a 5-1/4" bay and you've got something close to what you're looking for. Depending on drive locations, it might work out.

Heck, you might even be better off getting a case with 6 external 5-1/4" and buy an external USB / Firewire enclosure for your CDROM -- especially if you're concerned about price and time.

Hi Loopy !

The problem about external 3 1/2 bays is that it is difficult to mount proper cooling for the disk, however most internal 3 1/2 bays have the space to add cooling in the front.
