I currently run a wireless phone business and we do all of our activations online and we print out lots of copies of people's contracts. I need a good laser printer, preferably an HP, that can handle a heavy load of up to 3000 pages a month. I need a toner that isn't going to run out every month too. If any of you can recommend the best HP for my needs I would be very greatful. I don't need the highest end model going for $2000.00+ dollars, but just something that can handle the load and won't crap out on me toner wise every two weeks. I just started using my home 1200 printer and the toner is already going on me. There is a streak going down the middle of the paper, I'm wondering what the hell that is. I'm pretty sure it's the toner running out of ink though. Thanks in advance.

At work we use the HP laserjet 4 & 5 and 4000 & 5000 models and they are always printing something. We print everything from just emails to full lesson plans. I am the WGM and I never get any calls about printers not working. The other instructor who is in my office is our impact (money) guy and I have to approve all computer purchases and I haven't seen any toner cart. come across my desk since I started teaching (5 months now).

We used to use HP 8100's at work all the time, thats all we ordered except for the color lasers. They printed fast, something like 35 pages a minute or something. I think there is a 4100 series as well. I'd take a look at HP's website, most of them have a monthly duty cycle of over 50,000 pages. I know we used to print 1000 pages a day off some of the 8100's for some useless report.

We use LJ 4000's at work in a small accounting office. The thing can take anything you throw at it, and during tax season, we can print 1,000 pages+ on some days. I think it is 17PPM. Not to pricey either.

March 2001, I have purchase one Samsung 4500 for my office and one for my home.

We print average of 80 pages a day since then.
Samsung's all-in-one cartridge yield around 3000 pages and cost $55 (toner, drum in one unit)

As of today, the printer still going strong and never choke once. I will recommend this printer. (I can't recommend anything I never used before. :p)

As for business use, I STRONGLY advice you buy those 3~4 years extended warranty from your local store (BESTBUY, CompUSA, CC) Extra money you spend will ensure your worry-free business operation.

Get a free color printer from Xerox, including free black toner for 3 years! You only pay for color toner.

3000 pages a month is nothing, even HP's cheapest corporate level laser ($700) is rated at 60K pages per month.

I would recommend a base model Laserjet 4100 though, for around $1000 you get 25 ppm, 1200 dpi, and the ability to use 10,000 page cartridges.

If you need network capability get a 4100N.

If you want something cheaper, I would recommend a LJ 4+ or a LJ5. They are absolute workhorses, & would be perfect for your needs. Obviously you'll have to get one used, but you should be able to get them for under $200.

As far as your 1200, have you tried replacing the toner cartridge? If that does not resolve the issue, then most likely the fuser is damaged. In a higher level printer (ie 4100) the fuser is user replaceable, but in a 1200 that would pretty much be the end of the printer.

laserjet 4100 - i have bought three

get the high capacity toner cartridges (get them cheap at Sam's Club!)

lowest cost per page

super reliable

you can get a internal network card off Eb@y or $125 if you shop around - they are the easiest print server device you've ever seen..

highly recommended if you have a network
