I love samsung's products and like almost all of them. With that said i would not buy a samsung 753df. I dont know about the nec, but i think the quality of the 753 is very bad, imho.

How much can you get them for.
Mwave has the samsung for 175 and the multisyc for 218, so i was wondering if your prices were closer to the 175 or the 218.

From the description both looks the same in almost every aspect. They both have a low max res/refresh.

If I recall correctly, the NEC is a better monitor. It has an aperture grille tube (Mitsubishi Diamondtron), whereas the Samsung has a flat invar (shadow mask) tube.

AG monitors are thought to be sharper and have more vibrant colours than their invar counterparts.

I would go with the NEC in a heartbeat.

I've had my 753df for over a year now. Haven't had any problems with it all. I wish I could have gotten it for the price they sell for now though. Paid around $275 when I bought mine.

<----edit: 1500 posts!

I have a Samsung TV and it is loaded with features
(plus it is made in the States)

I read a thread in the hot topics that some people weren't
happy with the 753df but I also have read good things about it

What is the major advantage of the aperture grill over the flat invar?

They both sound like greek to me

Thanks

I am looking at like 280 Canadian for either one
but because of shipping(heavy weight), customs hassle etc.
I didn't want to order this from the states ;)

Shamelessly copied from another site:

<< What's the difference between a shadow mask vs. aperture grille?

The CRT (Cathode Ray Tube) mask is a major component of the picture tube. There are two major types of CRT masks: the shadow mask and the aperture grille, also called stripe mask. Both types of monitors produce excellent image quality. An aperture grille displays brighter images with richer and more saturated colors. Popular aperture grille technologies include SonicTron® from ViewSonic®, DiamondTron® from Mitsubishi and Trinitron® from Sony®. On the other hand, a shadow mask offers displays with more precision. Typically, they have a flat-square design which provides images that are more dimensionally accurate. Better shadow masks are made of INVAR, a type of alloy metal that has high heat resistance to withstand prolonged usage without distortion.

It is a matter of user preference and applications when selecting between shadow mask and aperture grille monitors. For color graphics applications such as electronic desktop publishing, the aperture grille technology is often preferred for its ability to display colors more vividly. However, engineers doing CAD/CAM and other technical illustrators may prefer shadow mask technology for precision drawings and the better representation of flatter displays.

And there you have it!

I was just poking around the NEC website

and got these specs

1024 X 768 55 to 87 hz
1280X 1024 55 to 66hz :disgust:

That certainly doesn't light my fire

I probably will keep it at 800 by 600
but that low refresh rate bothers me
