I need (i.e. want) a larger LCD....

Currently have a Dell 2005fpw, and while its a great monitor, i want something a bit larger...

I mainly use it for everyday tasks (rig is a dual core mac mini), photo editing, website design, etc...

The three i'm currently looking at;

24" Dell 2407fpw - $675ish + tax
24" BenQ FP241w - $799
37" Westinghouse LVM-37W3 - $1050 + tax if Sams ever gets em back in stock)

I like the BenQ and Westinghouse because i can run my HD cable box right into it as well. Also, i worry about the Dell due to the past reports of color issues....

What do you think?

Go westinghouse, you wont regret it.

Right now im typing on my 42 inch sceptre from my couch, its so fulfilling Also, you wont notice too much difference between 1920x1080 and 1920x1200.

I have the 2407FPW and I'm more than happy with it. I don't notice any ghosting in games and I use my machine mainly for development, photo editing and a fair amount of reading. It works beautifully for me atleast.

I really do like my current dell model (2005fpw), but the lack of decent HD support (via component) on the 2407 bothers me... For ~ $100 more, the BenQ has full 1080p support via HDMI.

i've seen both the 2407 and westy setup in person and the dell simply does not compare. The westy's size makes an unbelievable gaming experiance

Well gaming is probably the last thing i'll be doing with it... MacMini isnt exactly a screamer in the 3d graphics dept

What distance will you be viewing from? If desktop levels the 2407 would prolly be preferred (from my understanding they fixed the banding issue you're referring to). At 5-6' the Westy (I have the w1, it has some issues being the 1st model but it's still great). I don't have any other monitor, you can read text from 12' away (I have good eyesight). It's fine for office and such, but SD requires some manipulations (I have an S-Video converter for direct input, or you can filter through the DVI if you have a PC card), but component scales a bit weird.

Ill be sitting ~ 1.5 - 2 feet from the display... I do alot of photo editing, so i dont mind having to move my head from side to side if need be, but i dunno is 37" too big to be sitting that close?

I wouldn't say way too big at all, but if you don't have people over where you'd need a bigger screen I'd stick with a 24" display. It should be sharper (1080p is more stretched on the larger display), and in some ways a smaller screen is better for regular work (net, office, feels more natural).

Well, the more i think about it, the more i like the price of the 24" lcds....

Does anyone know if the 2407 will work with an HD feed via component?

I tried to find some specific info for you. The 2407 will accept component, but it appears to have PQ issues above 720p. It seems all 24" monitors are going through various quality issues, esp wrt 1:1 mapping due to the aspect ratio, which seems to be the biggest concern at this point with the Dell (and BenQ). There's not a lot of data on the 2407.A03 that I've found on specifics aside from the banding problem resolution, they seem to focus on the A02 and I'm not sure what all is applicable, but what I seem to be reading is that many enthusiasts are waiting out the tech a bit due to issues of all the various models (including the BenQ and Samsung, which along with the Dell appear to be the most popular with enthusiasts).

I think for your applications, the Dell will run well but I don't have one so I'm not a good source for specifics.
