any recommendations? any websites that will give me prices and locations? thanks!

for example: new jersey (45 min away) has $50 rooms

i need room for thursday night/friday
 
There used to be a Days in on Paterson Plank Road (hwy 120 I believe) town is either East Rutherford or Moonachie. Cheap and 10minutes from the Lincoln Tunnel when not rush hour.

hostels are like a dorm. Public bathrooms and showers and mess hall. You're usually paired with a roommate and the rooms aren't usually well furnished. These places are usually filled with foreigners who are just visiting the area temporarily. They have a reputation for being $#ITholes, but I stayed in one in NYC and it was pretty clean.
 
If it's just you, you can stay IN NYC for about $100. But from the sounds of it, you're taking a car, so maybe the best thing WOULD be stay outside NYC because the parking rates are incredulous here....
