I NEED HELP!

Hello,

I have a computer problem that is driving me crazy and won't let me enjoy using my computer. My computer will open random documents (such as the calculator panel) and start to spazz out to the point where you would think it is possed. At some points the keyboard will not type, the sound mutes and unmutes by itself, when ever i click to type, the computer starts typing random things such as "=======================================================" over and over again. The computer will open up random windows on the internet making it impossible to use. i have become desperate for help. I've tried disconecting the keyboard, diconnecting my headphones (for the sound problem) and deleting sidebars. i have no idea what is causing this. i have even done virus searches with AVG and Adware. i could really use some as this situation has gotten so frustrating i feel like beating the computer with a hammer.

my computer specs are:
Asus M3A78-EM mobo
AMD Phenom 9600 Agena 2.3GHz
4 gigs G.SKILL ddr2 1066 memory
2 WD Caviar SE16 640 GB HD's
EVGA 8800GTS video card
Thermaltake Purepower 500W PSU

Thank You Very Much

I'm his brother and have been working with him trying to get this problem figured out. I built the computer for him. It seemed to work fine the whole time I had it at my house. And pretty much from the moment that it got to his house, it started having these problems. The computer is less than a month old with hardly any programs installed on it.

We tried switching keyboards, which doesn't change anything. He can't seem to find any correlation between doing something and random things happening to the computer. Is it possible that the house voltage isn't correct at the outlets? There always seem to be computer problems at that house. The reason he got this new computer was because he was having so many problems with the old one.

Full system scan with AVG came back clean and full system scan with Ad-Aware came back clean. No abnormal items running in the task manager.

Has anyone heard of this happening before? All drivers are up to date. Perhaps we should update the BIOS? It just seems weird that it seemed to work absolutely fine at my house and then all of a sudden starts having all these problems at his house. Which is why I originally thought it might be keyboard related, because he's using a different keyboard and I thought the one he was using had hot-keys for calculator and mute and opening windows. The reason the internet opens random windows is because of the random keystrokes which cause windows to open.

Any help is appreciated.

Oh, and running XP pro

That was actually my next step (Having my dad check the power at the outlet). I think all the keyboards in the house are ps/2 keyboards. I'll ask him if any are usb keyboards. We did switch the mouse from the back panel to the front panel usb ports with no affects.

Well, it turns out he didn't realize that he had 2 keyboards plugged in to the computer. One of them (The one he didn't realize was plugged in) had soda spilled on it a while ago and the enter key and p key stopped working. Not to mention this keyboard is the one I originally thought he was using and is the reason I originally thought it was keyboard related, because it's a microsoft 4000 ergonomic keyboard and has hot-keys for mute, calculator, etc. Most of the symptoms...

Since unplugging it and restarting, things seem to be back to normal. I'll post back if anything else changes.

Thanks as always.

2 keyboards? They can't both be PS/2, so at least one must be USB - looks like wererabbit's suggestion has helped you out.

Yeah, I don't exactly know how it happened, or how he didn't notice, but the malfunctioning keyboard was a usb keyboard, and that's why he was able to have 2 plugged in (and not realize it). As far as I know, it's gone the whole day without spazzing out, so I think we can file this one as solved. Thanks everyone for all your suggestions and insight!
