They are around the same price on amazon (zen micro) and apple.com (ipod mini) both with free shipping and that is tallying in the usb ac adapter. The iPod mini would be 4GB and the Zen Micro would be 5GB. Here is the website with zen micro Here

Here is the link to Ipod mini
Here

Any Help would help. I need it within 2 weeks from wednesday because I am going on a trip

Between those 2, i would probably get the ipod mini... but for a little more, you can get the Zen Touch with 40gb hdd

For your own MP3s or fresh rips of CDs, either.

If you want to buy songs from Apple (copy protected AAC), the ipod.

If you want to buy songs from Napster (copy protected WMA), the zen.

If you want to rent all the music you want for $15/month, Napster and the zen.

Note: if you buy the zen you might want to get it somewhere like buy.com where you can add a year warranty extension for $15-20.

Ipods are the worste, its like a trend or something to have an Ipod, the Zen Micro is a lot better, not to mention it has more storage.

iPod Mini, easier to use, better looking, better menus, and has great quality.

trust me ipod mini arent all they are cracked up to be. sure, it's a great fashion statement, but when it comes to the most important aspect of a personal digital audio player: the sound quality, the i-pod mini is severely lacking.

I'd disagree. When you have your music encoded in a high ACC bitrate or a lossless ACC format, the iPod Mini sounds great. Hell, it sounds great even with your typical 128kbps MP3. I doubt 99% of people would be able to differentiate the iPod sound with any other MP3 player.

For the same price, I would much rather have a device that is easier to use, looks better, supports the most popular music store, and has superior navigation.

rio carbon anyone?

that is a GREAT choice if you're not too picky about size/style. it should be about $200 now at some places and plays ogg vorbis, flac, mp3 and wma.Only palyer no the market to paly ogg. great prametric eq too.

Get the iPod... you won't regret it. I love my 20GB iPod... and I did get ti before it was a trend (it is a 3rd gen). Only thing is with the Mini... I'd spend a $100 and get the more space...

Picked up the Zen Extra 40GB a couple of weeks ago from Staples for $199 after a $20 rebate. Sounds great and lots of storage. Case and user replaceable battery included.

FFS, its AAC not ACC
damn, how can so many people get it wrong?

btw, I'd avoid Rio like the plague, check out some reviews at well, anywhere, from customers that is. they tend to go bad alot, and rio seems to be a b!tch about it most of the times

or you could check riovolution and just ignore the fanboys. it dosent have any quality problems. ive dropped mine 3 times from 3 feet onto hardwood. couple scuffs but no problems at all, didnt even skip.(yes, it's a infamous karma)

I didn't think the Carbon played anything but MP3 and WMA? It's basically just a 5GB version of the Nitrus, which I have. I know for a fact that the Rio Karma plays all of the aforementioned formats and is 20GB. Is that the one you guys are talking about? The Carbon is the 5GB version. 😉

😕 Ipods aren't known for their sound quality, with good reason. They have a high THD figure, attenuate bass to save on battery life and have a joke of an EQ.

Why go aac or apple lossless when you can go ogg (higher quality & more widely supported lossy) or flac (more widely supported lossless) and get a choice of players which will play them? aac serves one purpose - to keep the naive who encode to it from switching to a non-apple player.

At any rate, between the two the OP mentioned I'd go with neither personally, but then I have a large collection and can't see paying the same or close to the same for a 4-5gb player as you would for a 20-40gb player. My suggestion would vary depending on your budget and how highly you value player size, sound quality and features.

I love my 40 gig 4G ipod. None of these MP3 players are meant to be of Audiophile quality. I encode at 192 min 320 max or if its a really sweet tune I just rip it as a WAV file. The EQ is just fine but I barely use it anyway so its not big deal to me. Ipods are easy to use, especially the 4G and minis. The other player, especially the Zen, have way too sensitive controls like the 3G ipods. You breathe on them and the song changes or the menu bugs out. Ipod 4G all the way.

aen has adjustable sensitivity. my friend's is always set to low.
anyway gurck is right. ipod sq suck real bad. im no audiophile but i cant stand the sq at above 75% on my friens'd ipod, no eq(everything breaks up). on my karma, i hit 100% with no eq and sq is still good. with the bass boosted at +8db in eq, i can safely go at least 80% on stock earphones.
