Hello all. I have download a few MPEG-4's or Divx files or whatever you want to call them. I want to learn how to encode my own. But this has really turned out to be a pain. I am trying to use Flask. I am not trying to rip something from a dvd, I just want covert a mpeg I already have. It is a .mpg file. It is 37.6 megs. It is 352x240. It is 1150kbps. It is 3:47 long. Whenever I try and convert this I always get a bigger file. Are mpeg4's not efficient at this quality? How do I get my file properly encoded. I tried looking at what all the setting do, but I have had no sucess. Also do any professinal encoding programs exist. I wouldn't mind paying for something. I imagine there are professinal mpeg and mpeg2 encoding programs. Also what would the file name for a mpeg2 be? Thanks.

I use the codec at divx.com.
Once it is installed use virtualdub.

Read the info on virtualdub and away you go. I currently have my entire vhs collection converted to divx format.

Thanks for your help. I am wondering where all the professinal encoding programs are. Are the just not out yet? I am assuming they would be very expensive. I am not really planning on buying one, I am just curious.
