I need help with El Gigante in RE4

I am up to the two paths section of the game. The left path is clear and I have the camp key but I want to kill El Gigante on the right side for the 15,000 gold and the other various items on the path but I am having serious problems trying to kill El Gigante.

I knock the boulder down on top of him and lay into him with my shotgun, he goes down and it should be an easy slash and gash right? NO, I run up onto him and he stands back up and throws me off. Flash gernades with more shotgun.. same thing.. He has done this at least 5-6 times in a row! I CAN'T KEEP HIM DOWN. What do I do?

I realise theres a great temptation to read more than just that piece of information you need but it doesnt half help when you need it most.

well the way you do it is exactly the way it should be done, when you run upto him after you do those shotgun shots in him and you slash @ the thing in his back, just flashing him should get the job done. i havent played the game in quite a while but if i remember correctly dropping the boulder on him then just keep flashing him is the way it needs to be done

I know of GF They don't have anything about him throwing you back off once you get him down.

Zero, I only have 2 flash gernades and I thought they DID NO damge. They just stun him enough so you have time to shoot him.
