I need help with a Road Runner problem..........

My Road Runner has started screwing up! The cable light will constantly blink and then will stop blinking and the test light then blinks. I called RR and they said it would be Aug 1 before anyone would be out here. Is there anything I can do to try and fix this? Does anyone know what might be causing it?

I had RR, I'm guessing it's RR (your ISP) and not your system. If that's really the case then there is nothing you can do about it.

This happened to me recently. Try rebooting the modem (by unplugging its power for several seconds and then restarting it). In my instance the real problem was that my signal was too weak because there were 2 splitters in the line (one in my apartment and one outside). If you can remove a splitter that may help boost your power and get it working.

That sounds like rather poor service to make you wait that long. I have RR in Norman, OK and they will usually come out the same day if I have a problem.

Thanks! I have tried unplugging and reseting and it didn't work. They told me it wasn't on there end that it was on mine. Anyway, it does suck to be without it for two weeks. I live in an apartment so maybe there is something with the wiring. I think I am going to call them and let them know that August 1 is unexceptable.

If they're making you wait almost 2 weeks, that probably means you have no other broadband options and they're not too worried about you leaving 🙁

I had that exact same problem with RR back in january, they told me that it would be a few days or a week to get some one out to check it, after the third incident in the same month I called to cancel the service, at that point they said they could get some one out the next day, I was already so pissed off about the service that I just cancelled the service anyway, for three months I went back to 56k and it sucked so bad! , I had RR re-activated about a month ago and it has not done this to me since.

Get serious with them, you are paying for a service and you are not getting what you are paying for, make them fix it!

sounds like your modem unlocked...

first thing to do is, check the cable... follow it as far as you can(even check inside the wallplate if you have one)... then in you live in a apartment with aerial utilitys... find where the cable goes in...(you can do it with underground util's but it's usually harder to find)

most likely it's either in an locked area, or in a locked metal box... at that point your screwed.. if it isn't... see if anything is obviously lose... or if you see any tampering like if a neighbor is stealing cable. if someone is stealing cable look for a cheap ass splitter(like radio shack or something)

besides someone stealing cable and messing up your signal levels... it could be that another tenant got cable and the normal cable guy came and changed a splitter(messing you signal levels up) or that their is a line problem in your area not letting the return signal back thru.... and very rare possibility is... your modem died😱

I to have RR and have had this problem. Has your cable gone out recently? If the service techs who fixed the cable did not balance the return line then you cable will work fine and you RR will not. As a matter of fact you may not have even seen an interuption in you cable service and TW just had some other reason for messing with the lines. The problem is the techs will not believe you when you tell them that you have done nothing to your cable and send some one to fix the line they have to send a tech to your house. I ended up talking to a supervisor who finally got a tech out to fix the problem the next day instead of next week like originally planed.

Thanks for all the responses. I haven't had any problems with my cable TV service just the RR. It has to be a signal problem or the modem is bad. The cable light is constantly blinking then it will switch to the test light. I have tried unplugging and releasing my IP and neither seem to work. I will call them from work tomorrow and demand they get to it earlier. Hell I do practically all my banking and bill paying online. They are costing me.

at peak usage times, my RR will blink, then go out for a few minutes, up to a half hour. I was told by a RR field tech that when they run a line into an area, they have a certain # of people on a "Node", and that when the node is close to capacity, they have to randomly knock people off for a short while because the system can't handle the load. When that happens, they should be adding more nodes to the area, but they don't bother, unless people really bitch about it.

I have talked to them. They finally transferred me to a supervisor only to get his voice mail. He has yet to return my call. I am about to try again. I am going to cancel it this time if I don't get help.
