I don't think the ozone layer is quite so much of a concern anymore since CFC's were largely phased out. Or rather, there's not so much hype about it anymore.
Now, for #3, I don't really "drive less" because I never drove a lot to begin with. I was never the sort to drive in to Sheetz or Wendy's just to buy a sandwich. I'd make trips in town when I had to, and I'd make numerous stops in the process. Grocery shopping would get done while I was already in town for work. Or, if it was an "errand" sort of trip, then it could include the grocery store, hardware store, maybe the library, gas station, electronics store, and so on.
CFL's - I use them where practical. I've got some closets here that use incandescents, because fluorescents just aren't practical there. Those lights are only on for 20-120 seconds at a time; given that each power-on cycle for a fluorescent takes away from its life, moreso the quicker the startup is, it's not worth it to swap those out for CFLs. The better option would be to use fluorescent tubes, which tend to give more lumens per watt than CFLs do.
Lower heat use - I do like it warm, but I try to keep the heat consolidated in the parts of the apartment that I occupy when I'm home. The bedroom generally gets pretty cold until I open up the heating vents. I have a programmable thermostat which drops down to 65F during the day.
In the summer, my air conditioners are off when I'm away, and turn on a bit before I come home, thanks to built-in digital timers.
Public transportation: It doesn't go where I need it to go, and it's expensive. To clarify, to get to campus, it takes 10 minutes by car, and costs less than 50 cents in gas. To go by bus would take almost an hour, and cost $2.10 - I'd have to ride it all the way in town, then transfer to another bus and take that one all the way back to campus.
Showers....um, well, I don't run the water while I brush my teeth.
😱
Recycling, I do that too, though I really don't generate a lot of trash/recyclables to begin with. I drink very little soda (only super-nutritious Kool-Aid), and no bottled water, so those are energy-savers right there. Bottled water....I just don't get it. It's piped to your house for, I don't know how cheap. Really damn cheap. Instead, we want water to be shipped to us, by truck, in plastic bottles, the production of which not only consumes more petroleum products, but also water. You want cheap, clean bottled water? Buy a Brita/Pur water filter thing, and a bottle. Inexpensive and efficient.
