This is what happened.. i currently have a 700Pentium III running at 933mhz. it has been rock solid and has never given me a problem yet for about a year. i have an Asus P3VX4 motherboard with 128 megs of crucial 133 ram... well i wanted to get an extra stick of 128, so i bought one off the forums, and as soon as i got it i stuck it in.. nothing happened.. not even the monitor turned on, and the orange lcd light was constantly on.. i thought that was weird, so i took it out and forgot about it for a day.. then i decided to give it one more try before i sent it back.. well, i turn on the computer and it won't turn on.. so i just manually shut it off.. then when i turned it back on the monitor turned on with the "new" stick of 128.. but it went right into the bios, saying that i had improperly shut down and its running in safe mode.. and this and that.. so i tried to exit.. and same problem.. so i put the processor speed back to 700mhz running at 100 bus speed.. then my computer didn't seem to have a problem. so i restarted, went back into the bios and changed it again.. (keep in mind this is all with only my original ram).. then it ran ok.. so i was playing a game of starcraft and my monitor just went weird on me.. i have a Mitsubishi Diamond Pro 710.. u can see lines on it, kinda.. and its darker and fuzzier.. the monitor seeing says that its at 48.3kHz@59.9Hz. i have no idea what that means.. anyway.. i thoguht it was just a glitch, so i restarted my computer the normal way (start shut down, restart).. then once again.. my computer just froze.. the monitor wouldn't turn on.. so i had to take the plug out again.. and go into bios and set it back to 700mhz.. but my monitor is still acting funny.. what could this all mean?? what did that stick of ram do to my computer?? :( let me know guys

I had almost the same thing happend with my computer. When my powere supply blew out, it blew out my mobo, memory, keyboard, and all...

But I didn't know that my memory was blown, so I stuck it into my new mobo, and that's when things started to go crazy. So i simply removed it and it was fine.

In my case, memory was the main problem. Maybe it's for yours too...

My suggestion is that you get a new set of rams or even check the mobo. I don't see much problem with the monitor or graphic card or, even the cpu itself. but again. i'm just guessing.

are the two memory modules the same?

you know, make CAS #, bus speed etc.

i always go with crucial matched memory, so that you know its gunna work. are u sure you know this is not PC66 for example.

have u tried testing with just the new ram vs. old ram setup (where it was completely stable)...if there are any issues its most likely the ram having problems...also triple check any connections just in case u accidentally loosened something...other than that...i cant see any other solution..but thru process of elimination..everything used to work fine..so it should work fine without the new ram...and then switching the ram...will tell u if there is any problems..

good luck

This part sound kinda confusing to me, did you try to test the 2 ram separately. You should try the new one at standard clock speed then overclock it. Could the first time the new ram does not want to boot when overclocked then the Asus board go into the bios. (I think Asus does that when the computer fail to boot).

I would just return the RAM and get it replaced. Most places are pretty good about this. No more worries. Unless it happens again. Then it could be the Motherboard.

Check to make sure that you didn't loosen your vid card. Like a little bump when you were fooling with the ram. I have done that a number of times on my P3VX4.

Also it sounds like your adaptor setting has reverted back to optimum or some such. Go into Control Panel/Display/Settings/Advanced/Adapter and make sure the Refresh Rate is set to around 75Hz.

Otherwise it sounds like you bought a bad stick of ram. That alone shouldn't have mucked up your system.
