I need help PLEASE

I recently replaced a defective Maxtor HD with and old WD64aa as well as doing a fresh install of Win98se(I reformatted the drive).
Since then I can download and install software but when I try to run it the dispaly just goes dark. It is like there is no communication from the hdd to the system. I can browse the net just fine and access the hdd from my other computer. I can even play games from the secondary computers hd on my main computer.

example1 I installed Diablo on the machine, go to run it the screen goes blank...I have to reboot then.
example 2 Jumps start kids game which plays off the cd without being installed runs fine

It doesn't sound like your HD. More like a video card problem, you see Jump Start only uses 256 colors where as Diablo mostly uses higher color settings to run. Check your directX version and your vidio card drivers, also try changing the card with the other computer you have and see if that fixs it.

Note: always load the latest DirectX drivers before you load you vidio drivers.
