I need help! Just tried to oc my dell laptop!

Hi everyone... my computer is running as slow as heck right now I hope this msg gets to yall...i oc'd my laptop's mobo and ram even though someone claimed it "wasn't possible"! Well I had it running at 30% faster than normal!!! (Even though the fan was on and very loud) but today it started running all slow and smelling weird. The fan turned on really loudly right when I pressed the power button!! What should i do!?! I want to play HL2 and Crying Far asap. Thanks

well, the smell leads me to believe you physically damaged something. Laptops usually have very minimal cooling abilities, and normally shouldn't be OC'd, and I would have to say unless you can crack it open and replace some parts (i would think possibly the memory or cpu) you killed it.

That sucks....if you we're running a pos Dell @ 30% over stock, you've essentially just opened up your case and put a blow torch on it. You're probably SOL. You need a new lappy.

If you want to play games like "Crying Far", then buy a laptop or desktop CAPABLE of playing it. Even a Dell XPS laptop would play very well. Oh, and nice job voiding the warranty.

why the hell would you try to overclock your laptop??? if you intend to overclock a laptop to play a game, then you should know that it is not made for gaming and most games are not cpu dependant. can you also state us the specs of ur system?

Unfortunately, he did use his brain, and this is what it got him in the end.

I would recommend that the OP RMA his brain and ask that a functioning one be installed immediately. The laptop is likely a total loss.

the first thing i would do is un-overclock it and then see if it runs ok. If it doesn't all you can really do is pop it open and see what part you fried and try to find a peice to replace it. THat could be hard as dell uses proprietary parts

your cpu is running too hot,,causeing your cpu to slow down to avoid damages,, but it could be already too late. Downclock your system back to normal and let it sit for a day.

thanks for the advice folks... I bought a p3 thinkbook off ebay and it's here already!! That dell was a burning pile of parts and it stunk up my whole neighborhood!! Luckily they didn't know anything about computers. I said I spilled cola on it. I'v tinkered around with this new laptop and I don't think I can change very many of the bios settings. Is there a safe way to OC this thing without puttinng in a custom fan? Thanks
