Hi,

I wanted to install a wireless network at my work, but due to the distance between my two offices in the w/shop is almost 35mt at different levels. The internet outlet is in the the warehouse office with a open air gap of 35mt to the next office. I with my limited knowledge of networking made three option...now i dont know what to choose from....isnt it the case always. (all linksys routers and swicth

1. wired - a ethernet router in the office1, and wire extending to the next office uplinked to the switch in office2. cheap and efficient...but too wire hassle

2. wireless - a wireless router (g or dualband...tell me which ones better) in office1 with wired connection to a wireless accespoint (g or dualband) in office2. economical...not that as fast as wired...but wireless!!

3. wireless n - a wireless n router in office 1 with all the pcs in the office1 and 2 with its network adapters wireless n....no wires, almost as fast as wired...bit expensive...but future ready. router linksys WRT300N or WRVS4400N

i dont know what to do guys...also is linksys good or belkin is better???

Depending on what you need to do, wired would probably be the best option apart from the potential difficulty of stringing a patch cable between the buildings.

If your computers just need basic Internet browsing and occasional access to a file server, wireless should be OK although at 35 meters distance between the buildings you'll probably have speed issues using regular consumer level equipment so I wouldn't recommend it if you're going to be accessing large files, applications, or databases on the network.

If you want fast network access inside the office and just need to share Internet access between the buildings, you could use wireless routers in each building that share the Internet connection while the computers themselves are all wired. A basic diagram of this option would be:
Workshop Internet-->Workshop wireless router-->Office wireless router or access point-->Office wired server/PCs.

agreed...they make wireless products for these exact situations. building-to-building bridges, meant to connect buildings wirelessly that have los. i dont think soho equipment is going to be adequate, always worth a shot though.

as far as protocols, id just stick with g. N is still in its pre stages...not something I would implement for a business. g+, turbo mode, super duper leet gizzle all use channel bonding to double the speed of normal g (54 -> 108). heard this is prone to interfernce due to the multiple channels as well as less distance. on top of that, you need matching routers/wireless cards, or at least ones with an atheros chipset.

for building to building wireless, I would go with a bridge in a Rootenna box. We use the Smartbridges stuff (although it's probably overkill here) for much of our network, and Tranzio for our backhauls.
