I am building a new system, on which I will be triple booting WIN98se\WIN2K\Linux. My system will be an Iwill KK266-R with a 1.0Ghz TBird (probably 266 bus), 256Mb Crucial CAS2 Ram, WD 45Gb 5400 drive (for now, will upgrade to RAID by summer),40X CD, Actiontec ISA Master modem (linux compatible). I will probably use the onboard sound if I can find a linux driver on the web.

The last part is to find a video card that will be compatible with all 3 OS's (WIN98se\WIN2K\Linux)and have drivers available. I don't play many games, but want a fast card. I have a Viewsonic\Optiquest V95 19" monitor and run it a 1600x1200. I would like to keep the price around $100 to $150 max.

Anyone have a similar setup and\or any suggestions.

Here's RedHat's hardware compatibility list. I've used TNT2, matrox G400 dualhead, and ATI radeon. They all seem to work well. You can always upgrade XFree86, as the newest relese includes drivers for Radeon and GeForce2.

Go NVidia for Linux. It has excellent 3D performance, while the Radeon doesn't. NVidia's Linux support is unbeatable.

Go with Nvidia since they offer superior drivers for Windows 2000 and Linux than any of their competitors do. NVIDIA cards also perform more stable on non Intel chipset platforms.

I think I will go with a GeForce2 MX card since I don't play games which are card-intensive, I mostly use for 2D stuff. I can always get a better-for-cheaper one in the future if I need to.

Any thoughts on the GeForce2 MX, best manufacturer?

Thanks to everyone that has posted, I appreciate the help.
