im looking to make myself a training suit that weighs at least 150 pounds, but i dont want it to be extremly bulky is there and material dense enough so that i can wear a suit under my normal clothes and have it look inconspicuos. sorry about spelling and stuff beforehand

.2 cubic feet or 366 cu. in.<-- not all that bulky... that's equivalent to 10 blocks that are 12in*.5in*6in.
Even better would be tungsten although I think that's expensive, 150 pounds would only be 215 cu. in or .12 cu. ft.

If you really want to go for the gold try platinum or iridium ;)

Well, approximately:
Lead weighs ~.59LBS/cubic inch, so you would need around 254 cubic inches, or ~.14 cubic feet. :D
So, if you found a piece of led 15inches X 15inches X 1.1 inches, you would be around 150 pounds.

snoop I think your figs are slightly off but that's beside the point.
Forget tungsten, it's pretty expensive ($10/100g) and has too high a melting point

I dont know, I just got them from a quick search on the net, look here.

"Pb Lead (25°C) = 11.25 g/cm3"

They're not good for your health, indeed. Lead-poisoning was one of the leading causes of death in the Roman Empire under the rich and wealthy because only they could afford it.
So, don't lick or chew on lead, don't use it for cups or anything and stay away from melting lead =)

How about making a suit from strong flexible rubber, say about 1/16" thick and making a water-jacket suit. A bit like a puffa jacket but filled with water pockets... a bit safer than lead i think.

If you dissolved salt in the water you could increase the density to almost 1.2 times.

So.. 150lbs, ok in ISO thats 2.2lbs per kilo, 1 kilo per litre, so you would only need 68 litres of water, or 57 litres of brine. Say your surface area is approximately 3 square metres, then your suit would need to be about 20cm thick. Thats 8 inches for you ANSI lot.

Well.. it'd be inconspicuous for a fatty!! :D

Look into either sand or lead shot sewn between layers. Both are readily available in large quantities and quite heavy. Also both are commonly used as ballast and weight,

lol i dont think the water thing will work. i plan on wearing it at all times what if i sprung a leak at school. once i find out how much lead costs then ill see if ill use lead or sand. i have like 300 pounds of sand laying around.

The fumes from melthing lead are very harmful to your health. If youchoose to melt it, I would suggest using a blow torch and some type of good mask for the fumes. I have melted it for a project before, and you do need to be careful. It is not as easy as I first thought it would be. Also, a good source for lead was the chemistry department at our school. Although we only took 2 kg, i think they order it from the place they get their chemicals. Otherwise, it is mainly used in masses, try some fishing stores.

For lead shot, try ordering through a gun shop. You can get it in sizes ranging from almost sand to marble size.

Instead of sand, you could use lots of little nodules of Plutonium sandwiched between two impermiable layers. Just don't cross your legs suddenly or clap your hands, lest you go supercritical.

There's always Uniseptium (iirc that's still the name) but it only has a half life of a couple milliseconds :D

Seriously, Lead has a melting point of about 500-550F, 650F it melts readily. Use a good melting pot for best results if you are going to melt it into forms. A blowtorch can't really make for an evenly melted liquid, you'll end up with a bunch of lead clumped together in an unusable mass. If you're just going to keep it loose and sew it in a shot size of BB or smaller would work well (anything in the bird shot range). I found buck shot at Cabelas for about $10/5Lbs

You could use scuba weights if a belt would work, although 150 lbs hanging on your hips may hurt a bit. You can get them sealed in rubber or plastic so you don't get exposed to the lead. Maybe you could buy a mountaineering harness for rapelling or climbing, and thread the scuba weights in it somehow. The harness is also called a "Full protection body harness" and is used by workers on scaffolding or other areas where falls may occur. They run about $75.

Plutonium is pretty dense...no wait....that could be dangerous.

What about (expanding on the 150lb scuba belt idea) taking the lead out of the scuba belt and using a bench grinder to make shavings? You could make lead "stuffing" that you could sew into pouches in a normal looking Jacket and pair of pants.

Just out of curiousity, why the hell would you want to be walking around with an extra 150 lbs unless you were trying to get put into another weight class for wrestling or nascar driving?
