I need help diagnosing a minor monitor problem.

My monitor has a very faint line on the left side, its about 2-3 pixels wide, its barely noticable but I am a nit pick and its starting to irritate me a little. I have tried everything to get rid of it and the only thing that works is widening the screen so that the left edge of the picture
goes off the screen.
It seems like those few pixels on the left side of the screen are brighter. The convergence and geometry are nearly perfect and the contrast and brightness are set on the conservative side. I have ran a few power supply tests as well. I simply cannot figure it out.

Thanks

Here are some pics of the problem,

First I need some information Make / Model and the resolution and refresh rate.

This looks like a common problem when you are running at very high refresh rates. 120Hz for example. The beam sweeps across the screen from left to right, then goes into blanking before it draws the second line. If the deflection yoke does not have enough blanking time to settle you may see either bright or dark bands along the left hand edge. Lowering the resolution or refresh rates may help.

I also could be power supply or video amp related, as the beam turns on it may spike higher for the first couple of pixels before setteling down. If this is the case the is a design issue and there is nothing that can be done.

Good Luck

Its a Sony G520P 21" monitor , made in Oct 2002, refresh rate and/or resolution does not effect the problem. Although it will go higher I run 1024x768 @ 100Hz, mut the most common I run is 1280x1024@85Hz.
The monitor is nearly new so I can switch it out but I would hate to do that only to get another one that does it as well. I do not think it is a power supply problem because it does not display any magnafying in a power supply test...but I don't know.

Do you think I should return it for another one?

Up to you on how much it bugs you.

One more thing, try it on an differnet video card. The video card can also casue the spike at the beginning of the lines.

Odds are if this is a monitor issue you will see the same problem on another one of the same make and model.

The funny thing is I just sold my Radeon 8500 in one of my PCs because I am getting ready for an upgrade, right now I am using my PC with a Radeon VIVO in it...it figures that I found the problem after I got rid
of my 8500 :) so now I cannot compare the two PCs :)

I went back and toggled between 75hz and 100hz @ 1024x768 and its very slight but there it is definately fainter @75Hz.

I think I should wait until I get my new video card in my main PC before I do anything.

Thanks

I have that monitor. For what you paid for it it should be flawless. I recall you paid in the 500s which was a good deal but thats besides the point.
Try it on another computer if it does the same thing...send it back for a replacement.
