I'm in my 3rd year at university and I've gotta make some decisions.

At the moment, I'm going to be taking a major in psychology and a minor in computer science. I'm going to be graduating in 2 years (on this path).

I realized that later on, I would like to go into business for myself. I want to learn about finances and business, etc. I can try to get into the faculty of business at my university, but that would mean extending the time to graduate by another 2 years.

I don't know if I can handle taking another 4 years of school!

My other option is to forget the minor in computer science (I'm not huge into programming. I don't want a job programming but they are GPA booster classes - which I need) and just take some business classes. If I go this route, I graduate with just a major in psychology, but I also get to learn about business and complete my degree in 2 years.

What do you think I should do?

I'm kinda leaning towards dropping the CS minor and taking the business classes as I think the CS minor will be pretty useless compared to the knowledge I get from taking some business classes.

is this really an issue? If you wanna go into business and know the CS stuff is useless, why continue minoring in CS? GPA booster or not, you are just wasting money if you dont give a dam about CS.

Unless you have a technical degree SPECIFIC to your intended field, your major and minor(s) don't matter a whole lot. Get a quality education and learn how to think, analyze and communicate. Beyond that, take electives that you think will benefit either your GPA (Rocks for Jocks) or your career (finance, CS, languages, etc...)

hmm, I just found out that there is an option to get a minor in management through the faculty of science, but it is limited to 20 students annually.

I think this may be what I'm looking for! awesome...

Just get whatever Bach. degree you can asap. You don't have to have a degree to start your business, just buy some books. Corporations don't really care what kind of degree at all...matter of fact, most places don't care if you have a degree. Out of the 17 top reasons for hiring an invidvidual, fortune 500 companies rated Oral Communications as #1, Written Communications as #2, and some other stuff in the top 5. GPA was towards the bottom of the list, and "school attended" was at the very bottom (#17).

Once I graduate, I'll be looking for a job that will get me on my feet. Once I've got that, then I'm going to try my foot with my own business.

Anyway, I already understand that my degree is what gets me in the door (not a specific degree - any degree - it tells them I can put in the effort and have the skills to stick with something).

Why in the hell are you majoring in psych?
If you are interested in running your own business or working in business, why don't you get some kind of business degree?

EDIT: What school are you going to that it would take you another 4 years of school to get a business related degree?
Unless you are a science or engineering major, the first two years of courses are usually 90% general requirements. Seems like you should be able to get all the business major requirements in the next 2 years.

I don't have a real interest in majoring in business. I guess I dont have an interest in doing nothing but business. I'm just really interested in psychology, so I'm taking a major in that. I want to take a few business classes because it will help me get a much better understanding of how money and business works.

I go to the University of Manitoba. The problem is that because so many of my classes have been psychology, I can't apply them all to the business degree. I'm only allowed to take 36 credits from a different faculty. It would probably take me 3 years to get the business degree.
