I need help comparing computers

im new to this website. I am looking for a new computer to buy, im not building one myself but i did customize these two a little, tell me what you think. I want it for Gaming and everyday use. any recommendations are appreciated.

What is your budget? What games will you be playing and at what resolution? For gaming, you want the best GPU you can get. ATI 5770 is a mid-class GPU which runs games okay but for serious gaming, you want something better. NVIDIA GT 420 is total crap when it comes to gaming.

What an odd pair, 6GB in 4 or 3 sticks. The Dell is better for gaming but the HP is better is an overall winner. The only let down is the GT420. Should you decide to get the HP, consider changing the GT420 to something more powerful.

build your own or have it built so you can save a lot of money, while choosing the right parts.

I wouldn't recommend these 2 unless you are not good or have never fixed a PC before or don't want to go to the trouble of fixing it and rely on warranties to troubleshoot a problem.

If you have a decent amount troubleshooting skills with a PC it is way better and cheaper to get a PC that you build your own. Even if you do not want to build your own you can pay a technician or a capable friend to assist you in building your PC.

Indeed. It's much easier than it used to be...why, it's so easy, a caveman could do it...😛

You'll get a longer warranty on your individual components than the standard 1-year warranty from HP/Dell, you'll save a bit of money, and you'll usually get higher quality components with your build.

There are many guides and videos available for building a computer, but when you get down to it, it's just a matter of assembling a few components...and doing it correctly. (plus, of course, installing the OS and software.)

Crucial components like PSUs and Ram are usually of lower quality in prebuilt PCs.

Warranty is better, so for businesses this might be crucial.

But if you want to play, then DIY is the way to go.

No, you misunderstood my point...if you build your own computer, you usually get better quality components than if you buy a pre-built Dell or HP.
You get the (usually) longer warranty that comes with the individual components, (my EVGA video card has a lifetime warranty, the ASUS motherboard and Intel CPU have 3 year warranties) whereas, with Dell or HP, you only get 1 year standard.

None of the above. Look at the Studio XPS 9300. You can get an i5 2300, 4GB of RAM, and a 5770 for $830. Upgrading to a 5870 (much better gaming performance) takes you to $1000.
