So for my criminal justice class we have to write and 8 to 10 page paper on a law enforcement issue or criminal justice related issue. It can not be about weapons, less lethal or lethal. He stated specifically he wanted no topics on those.

Anyone have any ideas? I came up with some cases I could do it on, but other then that I am at a loss. What could I write about for 8 to 10 pages that would be interesting without filling it up with crap and rambling on?

Any suggestions?
Thanks :)

So you guys think I should discuss what about racial profiling? That it does exist? That it is necessary or unnecessary?

I'm not asking you to do the paper for me, just give me details. :p

Do some research on this, lots of references out there. Whether it's necessary or not, you can come to your own conclusion about that.

I'll keep my opinion out of this, I don't want to P&N your thread.

Also, bump this thread later this morning or afternoon. You'll get way more replies and ideas.

We're supposed to tell you what to believe?

Fine. Write that racial profiling does exist, but that it is necessary because everyone knows the Jews did 9/11 and we couldn't exactly leap on over to Iraq and kill us some darkies if we didn't have it written in the Constitution that "Arab=terrorist". If you can't find that in your copy of the Constitution, clearly you have a sanitized PC version, which was distributed by the commies in 1950 in a successful effort to sabotage the moon landing, which subsequently had to be faked to keep America distracted from our victory in Vietnam and the channelling of all of that country's resources (plus a huge portion of the military funds earmarked for "fighting" the war) to the coffers of the Illuminati.

I'm not asking what I believe, just what you guys think would generate the most discussion for a good paper. I realize that my writing is what will make the paper good, but it would be hard to BS an 8 page paper and make it good.

Suicide by cop is always a great topic that you can find a wealth of data on.

I forget what my paper was on in my CJ class...here is a sample question i still have from a chapter assignment:

Explain the explanations for the ?blue curtain of secrecy.? Is loyalty a good thing or a negative element of policing?

Or you can always do the punishment portion of the CJ system...is the death penalty a good thing or bad thing and does it act as a deterrant or not.

Community policing (there's a ton of info on that topic as well)

The prison population is so high in the U.S. that our claim to be the 'land of the free' is a joke. I wrote a paper on that once and it did nothing but piss me off, which makes for a lot of motivation to research and a good paper.

Fixed.

glad to see you kept your opinion out of it. idiot

Way to jump to conclusions. I did keep my opinion out of this, unlike you. This is an interesting thread, I simply removed the "BS" that YOU included to help keep this thread from being locked, and/or out of P&N.

You have no clue where I stand on this subject.

The differences between US law enforcement and (insert country here) law enforcement might prove to be interesting.

This seems to be one that I could get interested in. I know there are many differences in our crime prevention and such compared to other countries.

Thanks for everyone for the suggestions. :)

by removing 'BS' you show that you don't think its BS. :)

How about a study on the amont of money that is spent keeping people in prison that don't really need to be vs. possible alternatives to jailing non-violent offenders, and where that money can better be spent.

Role of law enforcement in combating drug related crime. Perhaps a comparison of how the police and justice system treat drug addicts in the US versus other countries; how much money is spent per capita on drug-related policing.

But go more specific than this; you could cover just "hard drugs" for example, or grow-ops, and either topic would provide more than enough material for 10 pages.

another good topic is temporary insanity. past cases and recent ones. the crazy astronaut diaper woman is a good example. is it a real condition? what are the necessary and sufficient conditions? what does it mean you have to not know the consequences of or morality of an action?

good luck.
