I need help!!! cant seem to set up a wireless network right

Well it seems the wireless adapter card is setup right cause It detects my system and my neighbors and connects to them since they have no WEP encyrption setup....

When I try to connect to mine it correctly ask for a key and I type it in as I set it and NO GO!!! It doesn't say it is incorrect it just never connects...

I have a WRT54g router v2.2 and a WMP54G pci adapter...both Linksys....

I set up the wirelss router on my main machine and followed their easy step by step setup.....It seems to work since by cable modem is working right....

I tried to set it up mixed which should take B and G, but the fing thing before I save settings keeps saying B-only...I didn't click that you POS!!! So I finally just set it to my G-only and said forget the laptop and its B mode adapter...By the way I could never get that one to work and it was 2 feet away....It kept connecting as a peer to peer but wouln't let me use the internet...

It cant be distance cause my neighbors is on their bottom floor and further away...So mine should work....


Any guides to help me set this up???


It sees it but I cant access it. The first time I could access it and it said strong signal but I couln't use the net...Now it just doesn't even connect to it....just says not connected and their are available networks....Like I said I chose my neighbors and it works as I am typing this...

Try running yours without any encryption and see if you can connect to it. When you type in a phrase for wep, it generates a key based on that phrase. Are you entering the key or the phrase on your machine?

I tried both with the router...I tried phrase generated and once were I came up with the code key myself....

I have been typing in the key when trying to connect to it....


I aven't tried it without key though....

I have a nvidia network controller and a realtek controller on my board... I have been using the realtek...does that matter!!! When I used the nvidia one it seems to not connect to the net with my main pc...

Will the Kerio freeware firewall be hosing me and maybe I need to clikc something on or off/?? The have this gateway thing and says it should be enabled for wireless but only comes with the paid version....I own Zone alarm suite...maybe I will need to reset that up....I removed that cause I was having some gaming issues with it....I got rid of it and never had the issue again...Also happened on my sons PC until I got it off of it as well...

The first thing that keeps coming up is wireless router/broadband like mine come with obvioulsy one mode..."gateway"....Kerio says I cant enable gateway mode without full paid for version...I am going to disable and run with the windows firewall and seeif that works...

if you have a router then there's no point in having a software firewall.

Do not worry.

It just using the same word.

When Kerio talks Gateway it is Not the same as Wireless Gatetway mode. You do not need Kerio Gateway since you have a Router.

Do not use the newest release of Kerio Free, the one that can be upgraded to full, they put on it a nice interface on it, but it "Sux".:thumbsdown:

The old Kerio v215 is much better: Kerio v215.:thumbsup:

And there is a Very Big Point in having software firewall, and more, even if you do have a Router.:shocked:

Kerio disabled and windwos firewalled enabled...

It works...I setit back to mixed mode though the f-ing program say B mode only and the laptop works flwalessly....

Upstairs works but wont hold signal lock....Is it the 2.4ghz cordless phone?? It says very strong or good but wil only hold for like 5 seconds and disconnect....

I am on channel 11...should I try 1 and 6 or try to change the 2.4ghz phone channel???

OK upstairs one is working and all network file and printer sharing is working...

I though it was th ecordless but it was saying 68% signal strength which must be prety good for wireless....I had one 80xx auth checked and once I unchecked it the signal hols....

Now I want to enable the WEP....

Will I be safe behind the windws firewall and if it is the only PC with it installed??? I set up the network so the diagram said all pc go to hub then main pc before internet....Is this right???

Everything was fine for an hour or so...I re-enabled WEP encryption by using the webpage...allseemed to work...I transferred some files...worked great...was playing a file of a shared directory and POW...It drops connection...

Next thing I know the laptop had no connection and the LAN connect line said limited or no connectivity...I try to reinitialize router and it errors out saying the router failed to assign an IP...I tried repair no go...I tried disconnecting the cable modem so it would reset the mac id and no go...Only way I could get internet to work was put the modem line back directly into the pC and forgo the router...

WTH...Are networks this unstable???

Got it up and running afetr unplugging router and resetting it.....100% fine for the last 12 hours ......been file transfering a bunch and son is been on the net on and off at playhouse disney...seems to be fine....

can you run netstumbler or something similar?? I'm wondering what else might be lurking in the neighborhood. And I would just get rid of the cordless phone and replace it with a 900mhz phone.
