magnets? i think they will do the trick,
if not droppin it at a significant hieght will work also
u can also get creative , by dropping it onto magnets ;)

how about a good old fashioned virus...

there are some really nasty ones that mess up hard drives to such an extent that you can no longer reformat them and make everything work...I got one of those on an old Maxtor drive (albeit un-intentional)

If you call them up and tell them that there's alot of bad sectors on it and it's failing, they will probably give you an rma number over the phone and then you'll get your drive replaced. What if you didn't have the internet (*heaven forbid* hehe)?
You wouldn't be able to get an RMA number without calling them.
