similar to Ontrack EasyRecoverey or Runtime Getdataback... Is there such a thing?? I used both demos to show me that my data from a FAT32 partition is still there, but with the demos you can't recover it, it just shows you the data! PLEASE HELP!

Norton Utilities has a cool utility called 'Disk Doctor' which fixed a similar problem I had. It was so easy to use I hardly had to do anything.

Use this utility to search and download link

How "free" are you looking for? ;)

Lost And Found (by PowerQuest, makers of Partition Magic) can be had with a simple search on Google. As a disclaimer, using it without purchase would be in violation of copyright laws. :Q

I am looking for a legitimate free program, aka freeware. If that doesn't exist then I will purchase, but money is not something I have a lot of at the moment.

Norton is the best thing to use. Their Norton Utilities 2002 is great and has Disk Doctor, System Info, Windows Doctor and other good stuff.

Look on Hot deals forum, there is a lot of promotions/deals on this software.

Downloadable as SHAREWARE, which is free for 30 days :)

Also, would you really trust a FREE software? Not to say that free and open source is bad or anything... But companies that have commercially released several generations of data-recovery and error-fixing products would still know better than some individual coder trying to bang out a late-night chunk of code :)

Also, Norton Utilities comes with "Unerase", which can undelete files.

Powerquest's Lost and Found is great. It's worth the money. If you don't want to spend a lot try online auctions - I got mine new a while ago for $25.

As for free one's - I agree with VBboy - Do you really want to trust your data with it? I'd say it's worth the investment for the peace of mind.
