My mind is blank at the moment.

In the original epsisode with Dr. Daystrom......what was the name of the computer and how did Capt. Kirk outsmart it causing it to "self-destruct" when the computer went 'out of control??

Thanks!

computer was called M-5. Kirk forced the M-5 to realize it committed murder, which was against its programming, so it shut down

Oops! Didn't see that second question. 😱

oh, and the episode was called "The Ultimate Computer" just in case anyone wanted to know. And the ship that was "destroyed" was the Excalibur IIRC. cool episode 🙂

I don't think Kirk convinced it that murder was wrong, rather he told M5 that his name was Kirk, not Kiurk (IIRC), who actually created him - meaning M5 made an error. Well, M5 was exterminating everything that wasn't "perfect" - now, according to definition, since it had made an error it was no longer perfect and had to destroy itself.

Or something like that.

I think.

Correct.

The best thing ever with a computer in Star Trek is Star Trek 4, when spoke is testing.
one of the questions is, what is the cultural signifigance of the year 1985. The answer. NOTHING.

Episode 37: The Changeling

Nah, the best computer instance in any star trek was when they went back in time.

"Hello computer"
*person points to the mouse*
"Ah" *picks up the mouse* "Hello computer"

They bounced a gravitron particle beam off the main deflector dish, set up a neutrino field inside a can of peas, held onto Geordie's visor and hacked into Data's knee. 😛

Okay a follow up question.

Mr. Spock: "M-5 doesn't realize it's a game Captain." Captain Kirk:"Wrong Spock, Commodore XXXX doesn't realize it's M-5's game!!!"

What was the Commodore's name???

Thanks in advance.

Ok, what was the REAL reason Star Trek had transporters?

Too lazy to walk to the shuttle bay and spend the 2 hours to pilot a ship to the surface

That's it, I'm off to bed...
