I Need Crayons That Smell!!!

Sorry if this shouldnt be posted here but I figured I would get better results here. My son is blind and Im trying to find some crayons that smell. 🙂 Ive heard they exist but never could find a place to buy the Crayons. I even called Crayola Crayons and the lady said the use to make them a few years back but no longer do.

Here's a post I found using google that might help you understand why Im looking for Crayola "Color and Smell' type of crayons.

I just wanted to pass along a suggestion for teaching little guys about
colors. My 1st grade student (blind) uses Crayola "Color and Smell"
crayons in class. In order for him to gain more meaningful experiences
and participate with the other students during class, he uses these
crayons that associate a smell with the color. For example green = pine
tree (each color is associated with a particular smell), when he wants
to color with the green crayon, he asks for green pine tree. He really
enjoys the experience and the other kids are always asking if they can
borrow his crayons. It is not a cure-all for the color issue but I have
seeen first-hand how much more meaningful it makes his first grade
experiences. And a secondary benefit is the social interaction these
crayons have permitted him to have within the natural routine of the
classroom. Just thought I would pass along this information. The
crayons should be available wherever you can buy regular crayons. Let
me know what you think.


To me this seems like a GREAT ideal and I cant believe they no longer make these Crayons or they should be easier to find. Then again maybe its just me.

Unfortunately, Crayola discovered two major problems with this type of crayon.

1.) Little kids were eating them, since they smelled like grape, licorice, bubblegum, etc.
2.) After they changed the scents to things like "Leather Jacket" for black, the scents were kind of disgusting, and not as obvious.

I agree tho, that the idea is awesome for sight challenged kids.

They stopped making them? Damn sonsof . . . I'd say stab . . . well, no. All kidding aside, I hope it works out well for you and your kid!
 
I wasn't aware that crayola made such a thing. maybe markers would suit the same purpose--I think there are markers that smell like grape in stuff, but I think they come in the wider type.
