Hey all.

I need a little help with ID/Password control...but, before I go into that..let me give you my system specs:

I have 4 computer systems in my room hooked up as a network.

My server is NT Server 4.0 which has the direct cable connection.

My other 2 computers use win98.

The last one is NT workstation.

They can see eachother ok and all have internet connection.

My question is:

I'm doing some administration practice and I would like to assign ID/Password/Rights from NT Server 4.0 to all the workstation. I mean...if I enter incorrect ID/Password on the workstation..I should not be able to get in at all. I want maximum security.
It there some kind of client on NT Server CD that I install on all workstation?

I don't know where to start.

Thanks for any help.

9x is not a very good network operating system to start with, but if you use policy editor you can force users to enter a domain username and password before they get access. This eliminates the ability to just hit "ESC" and bypass the logon.

Did you install NT Server as a domain controller (PDC)? If not, then you might want to try that first, as that will give you more control over the other computers once they join the domain.

First of all, there is no way to keep people off of a 9.x machine. If you set it up right they will not be able to access the server but they can access any file on THAT machine. 9.x has no real security structure.

For your server, when you did the first instalation did you make it a PDC (Primary Domain Controler) or did you make it a member server? If it is a PDC the tools you need are already there, you just need to learn them. (user manager is a good place to start). If you chose member server you will have to reinstall server on that machine and make it a PDC if you want to get full security. You can not make a member server into a PDC without reinstalling.

If you have more specific questions, post em or message me.
