Time has come for the kids to get into a bunk bed set and I didnt think it would be quite so overwhelming. Seriously, the styles and shapes and sizes go on and on and on. They have twin over twin, twin over full, full over full. Futon bunk beds. Angled ladders, straight ladders. Attached ladders, ladders that hook over the edge. Wood, metal, or combination wood and metal.

I have been to the furniture store and poked around for a little while, but you know how sometimes it just seems different once you get large furntiure home.

My main concern is safety (especially about the ladder thing) and durability. Am I just making it into more than it should be? It wouldn't be the first time for me to put too much thought into something;)

Thanks for any advice and help you guys/gals can offer:)

1) Measure space in room
2) Find bunk beds that fit
3) Find bunk beds you can afford
4) Flip coin for wood/metal
5) Profit!

Ahhhhh...........bunk beds..........my DREAM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

MAN oh MAN!!! I wanted my girls to have bunk beds so bad, but my wife wouldn't have it. We have a 3 bedroom house & she demanded that both girls have their own room so there went my "bonus" room......:(

She said that she and her sister could barely survive without killing eachother by sharing a room & she wasn't gonna put our kids thru it so long as she was working. (grrrrrr)......so she won. (Come to think of it.......when *doesn't* the wife win?) ;)

I say wood & twin on top of twin! Reason I say that is two-fold..........

#1.) twin on top of twin proportionally direct means you can squeeze it anywhere. Sure, some of those new configurations are cool w/ 90' or on middle, one out or what have you, but traditional twin directly on top of twin is the most conventional and room-friendly. (Kids would rather have the room on the floor to play with their toys than limited floor space & one twin bed they can both play on.....(talkin' bottom bunk, of course)

#2.) Wood 'cuz it's just easier to handle. Now the one exception I'd make to that would be on price. If the metal was just too dang cheap, I might have to go that route. Sure I wanted one of them whaazoooo swing set, hut, slide thingies, but for $1,500+ I decided to go for the $50 Wal Mart metal special. It served its purpose just as well & I don't have to cry over losin' $1,500 to a bunch of wood rotting in the back yard.

Hope that 'splain's enough!! I'm all for bunk beds & think they're TOTALLY................(and the Rock meeeeeeaaaans........TOTALLY)........COOL!!!

Thanks R, that is good advice:)

I only have a two bedroom home, and I am going to sacrifice the master bedroom for the kids and I will just take the smaller room. Thats a good point about more floor space being best for play room. The kids are young enough right now to share a room, at least for the next few years. Guess after that if I havent sold the place and moved out I will have to give up having any bedroom so the kids can each have their own:p
