I need both!!!! (headphone & speaker out)

I want dedicated headphone and speaker output on my sound card (meaning 2 jacks instead of sharing one). Currently using Fortissimo II but the dongle drives me nuts. What can I get to replace it (other than Fortissimo III)?

AFAIK, all "Platinum" versions of the SoundBlaster cards (the ones with the front 5.25" breakout box) have both the speakers and headphone jacks. This includes the Live, Audigy, and Audigy 2 cards, although you'll hafta sacrifice a front drive bay for it (but you get tons of other connections & stuff, too).

But can you use both at the same time? Besides Platinum might be overkill for me, I'd rather use the extra money to upgrade my video card.

The Hercules Game Theater XP does what you what. But it's pretty close to a FortissimoIII, though, just with an external box.

What about the normal Audigy2? I don't really want the breakout box. I would've gotten an M-Audio Revolution, but it doesn't have dedicated headphone jack.

Well, I'd like to avoid splitter if at all possible. Don't like splitters, they make my headphones too quiet.

turtle beach santa cruz is probably great for you. 2 speaker outs for quad speaker. a versa jack for headphones. you swap outputs in the volume control in windows, so you don't have to turn off or unplug either when not in use. you choose what gets sound🙂

Agreed on the TBSC .. I am running it the exact way. Using the two speaker outs for front and rear sound and the versajack for my headphones. The software allows you to easily switch between the two. You can probably find a TBSC for around $50 pretty easily, and its a great card

Just get a set of speakers with a headphone jack on the front.

Already have one, I'm using those for my Koss (listening to music).

Reason I want dedicated headphone jack is so I can also use my gaming headset.

It's a weird setup, 2 pairs of headphones and a set of speakers. I'll look at the TBSC, too bad it doesn't come in black (trying to get all black components in my PC).

Thanks. I didnt even know my tbsc had this option and I was about to go buy a Y splitter.

BTW: Have any of you guys tried the beta drivers 5/23/03?

Just go to Best Buy, go to the computer headphones and get a $10 A/B switcher that simply lets you click on either speaker output or headphone output.
This way you don't need to change sound cards, it shares the one jack without reaching around and unplugging, and it extends so it's right on your desk in easy reach.

"Bobby! Turn that blasted thing off!"
"Yes, ma..." [change from speakers to headphones] *click* "Okay - now where was I..."

Reason I can't do that is because my headset has mic and phone jacks. If I get the A/B splitter and mount on the desk, it'll be too far away to plug in my mic. That's why I wanted to do it from the soundcard itself.

Plantronics Switch

I'll make a Fry's run, see if they have any. I really wanted an M-Audio Revolution, looks like this'll make it work the way I want it to.

That's exactly the unit I was talking about. Should do the trick. 😉

Purchase 1 NewQ and it'll give you the Headphone Jack,an aux, not to mention FM Radio and 1 remote to boot!

I second this option. I have my Newq hooked up to my SB Live! value and I've got 4 speakers connected, as well as connections for a Mic and headphone, aux, etc. Very cool.
