This is what my boot.ini file looks like:

[Boot Loader]
Timeout=30
Default=C:\"Microsoft Windows 98"
[Operating Systems]
C:\="Microsoft Windows"
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\NTSRV="Microsoft Windows 2000 Server" /fastdetect
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINNT="Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional" /fastdetect
C:\$WIN_NT$.~BT\BOOTSECT.DAT="Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional Setup"

Since Win2k has gone loco I want to remove both pro and server from my boot up options and make it so just win98 boots up. Can I edit my boot.ini to make this happen? When I remove them from my boot.ini can I delete the files too? I would like to reinstall them eventually, but for now I want to just make my system boot without me standing over it to make sure it doesnt try to get into either 2k OS's.
thanks,
-doug

I think that if you boot to 98 and do a "fdisk /mbr" it will blow away win2k's bootloader... then whenever you reinstall it win2k should set it up again.

CTho9305,
Exactly how sure are you that it will "blow away" my problems? Reformatting the Master Boot Record is a serious thing from what I hear. But I really want to get rid of win2k and get it in again. I think it went loco when I moved some hardware around - I noticed it does that. If you are sure that reformatting the MBR will work I'll do it.
thanks,

Since you plan to reinstall w2k sometime, would be easiest to leave the boot files and partitions as they are now. Just go into w2k and, under Startup options in Control Panel set win98 as the default OS. Then set timeout delay (the time boot.ini menu stays on the screen) to a low number.
