I need Advice for overclocking RAM on K8N Neo2 Platinum!

Hi Guys,

I recently built a new rig with pretty much the exact same stuff in the recent Anandtech articles rating the Neo2, AMD 3000 Winchester, and OCZ Platinum Rev 2 RAM.

My rig:
1 gig OCZ Platinum Rev 2 PC3200 - 2.5 4 4 10 1T
AMD 64 3000 Winchester
K8N Neo2 Platinum
ATI X800 XL

I bought the OCZ Platinum Rev 2 and have had nothing but problems with it. I have been able to overclock my chip to 260x9 but experienced lots of RAM problems. I am fairly new to overclocking but followed the settings illustrated in many articles on that RAM. My ram was at 2.85v (manufacturer claims it can handle at least 2.75v) and it fried the other night! I only had my fsb at 250x9 too. With 2.5 4 4 10 1T timings.

Any idea why this could have caused my RAM to fry when all of these tests on it have rated it being able to handle near 300x9 FSB with those exact same timings and voltage? Any tips on what to look out for with overclocking RAM woudl be appreciated. I just don't know how to tell when I'm approaching the threshhold of when the RAM is getting close to the danger zone.

Any advice would be appreciated.

it literally FRIED? aka, not useable? are you sure the MAX wasnt 2.75v? i would call OCZ and maybe they will send you a new par'o sticks. good company, i bet they will.

Hmm..I would doubt a .1v increase would kill the ram..are you sure something else did not happen

clear the cmos, its most likely the computer refusing to boot
Well I already sent the RAM back in hopes of getting a replacement.

I didn't clear the CMOS because I was getting a mobo beeping error that the RAM was bad. I tried booting with each individual stick, the first stick I got the same mobo error. The second stick I could get to bios but it would crash while in bios and I couldn't get it to boot past the part of post where it checks the RAM.

According to the manufacturer the RAM can handle 2.75v, and again in Anandtechs review of this RAM and many others, they had it at 2.85v in almost all their OC tests.

Tests of OCZ 3200 Plat Rev 2 Overclocking

Again, can you guys give me some advice on what to look out for to prevent frying your RAM when Overclocking or point me towards a guide of some sort that might answer a lot of these questions?

Thanks
