Hi everyone,
New to here. I'm looking for a reliable voice recorder for lectures and study sessions. I used to just record with my phone, but background noise and unclear audio make reviewing a nightmare.

Ideally, I’d like something that:

Has clear sound even from a few meters away

Can transcribe or summarize notes automatically

Works well for students or anyone doing long recordings

Has anyone tried newer AI-based recorders or apps that actually make note-taking easier? Would love your thoughts — software or hardware both welcome!

Thanks in advance 🙏

Your phone's mic will be picking up sound from as many directions as it can, hence the background noise. I think you need a unidirectional mic at least. You may need to split off the transcribing part of the job to a separate device/app, unless there's been a device designed for this overall purpose (I wouldn't be surprised if there has) in mind.

Do lecturers not record their lectures yet and make the recordings available?

Some courses don't have audio recordings, and since I'm an international student, I frequently need to use these functions, both for transcription and translation.
