I'm looking for a laptop:
  • 13.3"-15.4" screen size
  • <6 lbs and ~1" thick
  • 8400M GT or greater gpu
  • core 2 duo preferably
  • want to keep it under $1500 with 2gb ram and 120gb hdd
  • dvd burner is not necessary
  • webcam, fingerprint reader and different color possibilities are all pluses
is there such a laptop out there?

I think that you should check out the Notebook/laptop section on Newegg, from there you can drill down your seach.

Also, don't make 2GB a must have... it is almost always more expensive to get it from the maker than it is to get the RAM from Fry's, newegg, or some place similar.

I also need a similar laptop, without the GPU though. So instead of making a new thread, I'll just ask in this one.

I was on Newegg the other day, and didn't really see any that fit our needs. Most laptops these days are ~1.4in in the back to ~1.0in in the front. Do any go smaller/thinner? Weight is not an issue for me. Also, I don't really want to shell out for a ibook.

Agreed, for what you stated, the M1330 has it. Except the fingerprint reader.

Also, finding a webcam and fingerprint reader is a rare combo right now, but may grow as Lenovo has made the step in doing so.

The T61 also has the features you want, minus the graphics card and probably the price you're seeking. But just to forewarn you, the batterylife is not that great.

As for the different color, you may probably only find that in a dell.

Ehh... the fingerprint reader is not really necessary, just might be nice to have. You can add it for $25 on the XPS. It only has the option of an 8400M GS. Not sure how inferior that is to a GT. Is there a big difference between the regular screen and the LED screen in quality?

Main differences between the screens will come from brightness, battery life, and backlight life. Most all CCFLs get noticably dimmer after 1-2 years of use, however, they are saying that LEDs will maintain their brightness for their entire lives.

cool, the LEDs' camera gets downgraded to .3 mp though... is it because of the thinness?

That is the supposition.

In all honesty though, my machine has the same res camera, and I have never found it lacking in the webcam department. Much higher res and you really need a serious connection to be able to video conference, plus how often are you going to want to look at a full screen resolution image of yourself? If you want to take serious pictures, carry a digital camera with you.
