If you wanted to buy a cheap charcoal grey suit and also maybe have it tailored so it can fit more snugly on a athletic build, where would you go and how much would you pay?

I'm looking at $100-300 suits and tailoring probably would be nice but not totally necessary

Men's Wearhouse
Some store near where I work I can't remember the name, but it carries Polo/etc.. cheap
Target
Walmart

Any others?

*yes I did purchase a suit at target and walmart before, and no they did not offer tailoring services, the seamstress must have been out*

I bought a charcoal grey suit just last week. Went to the local tailor and had stuff done to it for about 50 bucks.

I find them to be very pricey. But as stated above you'll like the way you look.

They have a decent range of stuff and I find that their tailoring is pretty good. Even their cheaper stuff looks pretty good after they have their tailor tweak it a little.

Men's Wearhouse...

I bought a suit from them on the way to a wedding. Seriously. Wedding was at 2:30 on saturday and I got to Men's Wearhouse at about 11 and said I need a suit quickly. He asked if that meant for the following week and I said that I was on the way to a wedding and needed one right that instant.

The manager called in a tailor, and I had a tailored suit, cleaned and pressed at about 12:45. I made the wedding by about 10 minutes. I'm not even joking.

+1 for MW.

Men's Wearhouse has a sale going on. I bought two suits for about 600 bucks. Decent suits too.

Maybe macy's. They should have a tailor on site. Or express but only with a coupon. You might be able to get away without tailoring. They're usually a little more fitted.

I would go with the grey vs the black unless it's for a funeral. I think it's more versatile.

edit: The merona suit from target isn't bad if you just need one relatively quick. Just take it to the tailor and it'll probably cost about 50 bucks to get the neck roll out, sleeves hemmed, tapered, and the pant legs hemmed.

I'd say Macys or Mens Warehouse, they'll have a tailor. Even if the cut is slimmer, getting it tailored is always better.

Last time out, I went to get a pair of shoes at my lunch break and ended up buying a new suit. Had it tailored (pants were hemmed and let out for my fat belly, jacket sleeves lengthened and sides brought in for my slimmer upper body) ready by 6 for a wedding I was going to.

EDIT: Oh yea, I think the suit + tailoring + tax was about $400 otd. BCBG blue pinstripe. I've wanted one of those for a while.

What'd you get and where?

went to men's wearhouse

A perry ellis ensemble and the other is a...Abboud?

They had to keep them for tailoring, I just went with whatever felt and looked great. This interview I have coming up is a huge deal for me, but it's nice I've got an extra suit for formal affairs also

Saved $500, so maybe I ended up paying normal retail in the end lol

Without knowing what you got, $350 per is probably about the going rate. Unless something has happened, Joseph Abboud suits are usually pretty nice and good quality.

As long as the tailoring is good, they will look great. A well-fit cheap suit looks better than a poor fitting expensive one. So if you're unhappy at all with the tailoring, make them redo it.

yeah, the way they have their deals set up....$100 for a equal value suit is a no brainer. You lose epically if you pay full retail for a $600 suit. Luckily for me I needed something to replace my Target brand Merona suit :D

Shit man, our President wears off the rack Brooks Brothers suits. Looks good on him, doesn't it?

Really depends on your shape.

When your waist girth > leg length, you have a problem with off the rack

I got a pretty nice Hugo Boss suit from Nordstrom during their sale. It took about 4 days between paying for it and them finishing the tailoring. Fits really well and the charcoal is a nice color
