Im in the market for a medieval era style sword. I want a broad sword that is very long and has a short handel, very plane with little decoration , does not need fancy stuff on it to get the job done. Where would be a good place online to purchase a sword similar to what i described. Or can anyone give me recomendations on types of swords to get. Oh yeh, and i plan on sharpening

half good half bad?

exactly my thoughts....

My wife bought me a sword on ebay for my bday a few years ago.... it was unsharpened though....

I purchased a long sword forged by a master smith from England on Ebay and I paid $4900 for it. It came pre-sharpened and perfectly balanced. I have since defended the honour of my family's crest on three occasions and I've been happy with the sword, whether I'm felling opponents from the ground or from the back of Lucious, my great steed.

Good lord, who buys swords? Be a productive geek and buy a video card or a PDA or something...
Are you going to 'practice' using it in front of the mirror? star wars kid style?

lol...

😀

I bought a sword while on holiday in June 2001....when I asked if I needed to declare the 2.5 foot sword I had in my suitcase they gave me a funny look like I was an idiot.....I wonder what their reaction would have been after September 11th.....probably would have got a semi-auto to me head.

When I worked on the farm, we used swords to castrate the pigs. Before the swords, we would just use our teeth.

we just used a box cutter

I'll give another thumbs up to these guys. They sell decent cheap swords (I consider anything under a grand cheap pretty much). From them you will get decent steel and a sturdy build. As far as recommendations on what to get it totally depends on what you want it for. My main knowledge is with Japanese type blades but I know a decent amount about European types as well.

For a decent European type broadsword expect to pay $200 to $400. For real quality work that price jumps dramatically.

Does it have to be functional? I mean not just to kill with (all swords can do that, even cheaply manufactured ones), but do you need it to be used in tournies and actual combat? If so, you'll need them to be properly forged, and they'll run easily $1k+.

Anyways, i think too many people are obsessed with the Japanese swords. Good swords, but i'll prefer a nice Sabre (chinese or american - like the ones that are issued to the Marines) myself. You can do a lot more.
