I'm putting a dvd burner and tuner card in my wife's little Aria.
I was selling the virtues to her and now I have to come up with a super simple dvd authoring solution so she can burn her shows to dvd.
I have a tuner card too, and I've recorded a lot of shows, but I've never burned a show to dvd.
I use Nero to back up my dvd's, it'd be entirely too daunting for her.
Any super simple solutions?

My friend taught his wife to do this and now "his" PC is useless because it is completely filled with General Hospital episodes that she has not gotten around to burning but that she does not want him to delete.

Consider yourself warned.

She's got her own machine, it's the pic in the thread above. She's got an 80GB HDD in there. If she uses the tivo stuff, I'll drop a 200 GB in there.
Kelly's a pretty tough nut to crack. She doesn't dig this stuff, but if it's easy and she can make use of it, she'll have lots of fun with it.
If the burning part is too tough she'll walk away from it. If I can find a simple solution she'll use it. Hell, I might even use mine :D

If this is to play on her PC, you could get a portable HD and show her how to copy the video files.

She's using MCE2005. She'll be using that to record the shows.
I want her to be able to burn the files to dvd for play on a standalone.
I figure she can burn them to dvd-rw's, watch them at her leisure, share them, etc.

He wants to author, so I'm assuming as a DVD.

I'm interested in a simple (and free?) solution, too. I have a collection of projects on my computer I'd like to get on to DVD.

Doesn't MCE record in some proprietary MS format? I know there are ways to convert them beyond that, but if you're looking for "easy", I'm not sure. I could be wrong tho, this information is from a while ago, and I'm not sure how it is now.

Beats the hell outta me. I haven't used MCE features enough to find out what I don't like about it. Your suggestion sounds about right though.
I managed to get the tuner installed in my wife's machine. The card won't work with MCE. It doesn't have any sound if I use Hauppauge's WinTv2000.
I got run away from her desk, so I'll have to battle it into submission later.

MCE 2005 record in the DVR-MS file format. The easiest program that I have found to author DVDs recorded in MCE is Nero Vision Express 3.

If you're going to start recording and burning alot of shows to put onto DVD, you might want to look into recording at DVD format, mpeg-2 720x480. This way you don't need to re-code from the recorded format into DVD compatible format, it'll save a fair bit of time.
Althought you might need to use something like a Hauppauge PVR-250 to record at 720x480.
