I need a room cooler for a bedroom!

I already have A/C in the apt but i hate to turn it on and use it when i'm only in 1 room the the whole time. Im looking for a room cooler that can keep my room cooled without punching any holes or mounting it on a window...does anyone own or have experience with such a machine?

Air conditioning units need hot exhaust.

Maybe if you stopped breathing hot air it'd cool the room down?

Seriously...get a directional fan... They're about $20 at walmart....they move a lot of air and can be aimed up or down to push air where you need it.

yes, in order to take the heat out of a room it has to go somewhere. that's why window units have the compressor on the outside.

a fan won't "cool" the room, but it will cool you off as it evaporates your sweat more quickly, taking heat with it.

Doesn't that actually generate more heat?

I'd say try limiting the number of electronics on at a given time, they all generate heat. TVs, fridge, stereo, computer, monitor, etc. That'll make a difference if it's a small and poorly ventilated room.

Yup. The cheapest I have ever seen is 399. And they still need an exaust.
They are also slightly less efficient than a hundred dollar wall mount unit or central air.
You really wont save money that way. You could try a humidifier to make the room seem cooler.

I noticed you said "THE" apartment and then you said "THE" room.
What is your setup like. I have a two bedroom apartment. Keep the air vents closed in the bath, kitchen and livingroom. Then close all the doors. If you only get AC in the rooms you need, you might save some money.
Thats what I do. I am able to sleep in my bedroom at night, and I can keep my computer room cool during use.

Do not get the free-standing air conditioners.

From friends and family I know in retail, they work horrendously for the price, and they are constantly being returned.

Your best bet would probably be a dehumidifier + directional fan.

If you live in a dry climate, you can try an evaporative cooler. It would never work where I live because of the humidity, but if you live inland or in a desert climate, probably works pretty well for the electrical cost equivalent of a fan.
