my mdr-v700's are really starting to hurt my ears after a long session of gaming, i need to pick up a pair of lightweight, extremely comfortable headphones.

(in order of importantce)
1. comfort
2. sound quality (low end sound)
3. portability (would be nice if they folded, but its not a big deal if they don't)

my budget is 150, i would prefer the headphones to be open air so i could hear other things that are going on around me. i posted on another forum and was told that the senn 590's are very comfortable, and have good sound... but they are a big on the pricey side. what do you AT'ers suggest?!

I like the Sony MDR-V6, but they are closed. I find closed headphones more comfortable than open ones.

no more of the mdrXXX's :p !!!

i was told to pick up the senn 497's just because of the price/quality ratio... i would really like to have a pair of open air headphones though. i'm sure many gamers here know how it goes when you try and talk with your team and actually end up shouting because you can't hear due to your closed air headphones

anyone??

Well, if you ever change your mind and decide to go with earbuds, try the B&O A8. They're $160 here but you can get them from fleabay or someone you know in HK for $80-90

I have the MDR380's
they are nice. I can see how after long periods of time they might hurt a bit though.
not sure what to suggest.

I'm all about my Panasonic RP-HT1000's for comfort. As far as sound quality goes, they sound good to me.

Low end sound and sound quality don't exactly go together, boomy headphones are usually distorted. I use Koss Pro4AAs for gaming, they're heavy and closed and completely overkill but I like em. Besides I stick Viagra pills in my throat to get stiff neck, helps me hold my head up while I play.

I got a pair of Sony Headphones shown here awhile back with a pair of chics wearing them.....er... kissing, Ask ViperGTS for links. Anyways, they are great but not comfortable after long hours of intense CS gaming.

If you care about comfort the most, you're not going to get it from buying headphones. Just get some beyerdynamic pads for your current cans, or get a set of V6's and stick those pads on.

May just be a tad over what you're looking to spend, but Sennheiser HD580's (and the 600's, since they're almost the same) are an absolute joy to wear. I actually look forward to putting them on. They're so comfortable that 10 minutes after putting them on, I don't even know they're there anymore - which can be a bad thing heh. I've had to go and replace the cord twice, because of times when I'd get up from my computer quickly and forget that I had them on. I also have some Beyerdynamic DT 831's and Grado SR60's and neither of those two come close in the comfort level, though they have their own uses.

Those people that have said that obviously haven't listened to any of the higher end Grados or Senns. The f-1 is overpriced. My friend owns it. The soundstage may be there, but i've found it to be bright, much more so than my Grado sr325, which is already considered a bright headphone. If you want something that sounds pretty good for a VERY cheap price, look at the Koss line: ksc 35 (ear clips), sportapro/portapro (can't remember which, but they use the same drivers as the ksc35, and it's great for its price point). Other than that, i'd just try Senns, i've heard they're comfortable.

I'm pretty sure the Etymotics er6 would r0x0r these, at retail of 130. :D
