I need a quiet Tbird CPU fan

My computer sounds like a vacum cleaner and I can't take it any longer. I have a AMD Tbird 1400 MHz and the fan is just plain loud. Can someone recommend some quieter fans?

What fan do you have now? And on what sink? If you have a 60mm setup, then it really depends upon how efficient your sink is. Some that are excellent with high-rpm fans may not work well with low rpm fans. You can try a quiet Sunon fan and see what happens.

The best route for quiet is to put a cooler on that uses an 80mm fan. I have the Alpha PAL8045 with a Panaflo fan on it and couldn't be happier. My Antec PSU is the loud part now, and that's not very loud at all.

Yeah .. get a SK-6 or a 8045 and slap a quiet 80mm on there.. you won't regret it. I have a SK-6 w/ 80mm thermaltake fan on it and it's quiet. (yeah thermaltake 😛 )

I've switched the fans around my rig this weekend and here's the detail spec:

1x 80x80 Air Intake Fan - Thermaltake SMART FAN with Variable Fan Speed Control (linky)
1x 60x60 Air Exhaustion Fan - 60x60 DC Fan from a Spire Cooler
1x 80x80 Air Exhaustion Fan - Thermaltake SMART FAN with Variable Fan Speed Control (linky)

and changed the CPU cooler from a Spire w/ Aluminum base to the Spire CopperKing II? with a cooper base.

The CPU temp dropped from 59º Celsius to 49º Celsius and the machine is really quiet.

Effective cooling is a function of both the heatsink and the fan. Put a good all copper heat sink on there, and you can get by with one of the slower, quieter fans. I'm running a SK-6 like smp -- it came with a loud and fast delta fan, but I replaced it with a slower (like 3700rpm) fan, and now it's quiet and still cools well enough to get the job done.

u could do what i did.....i bought a 60mm -> 92mm adapter , slapped on a 92 mm Enermax fan that comes with a potentiometer (for changing the speed of the fan) and a metal grill. even when turned up all the way, it was SO much quiter than my Top Motor 60 mm fan and it pushed a lot more air...right now i have it running about 2000 RPMs with temps lower than with the 6800 RPM 60mm fan. i currently have 8 fans in my computer, 5 of which are adjustable enermax's, and my system is still quieter than the 60 mm fan i had on my sink before

If you want a cooler that is quiet (36 db), but will still cool an OC'd T-Bird, check this out:

Millennium Glaciator II

I have a couple of the original Glaciators, and my 1 Ghz T-Bird (AXIAR w/Y) OC's to 1.4 Ghz and runs at 46c at full load, and the PSU fan is louder. The only downside is that it is HEAVY and only attaches to the CPU socket at two places, instead of all six. They recommend you remove the cooler if you want to transport the comp, such as in a car. I haven't had any problems moving my computer around with it attached, but it is a 600+ gram block of copper...
