I need a quiet heatsink for x2 3800+

The stock fan on my heatsink is getting really loud. Whats a decent heatsink thats easy to install and is quiet. My processor is not oc'd so it just has to cool stock temps.

would run insanely hot and wouldn't be able to put on load....(unless you live in the arctic)....a good SILENT (not quiet, SILENT) would be one of the ninja heatsinks without fan

Yeah, I've reconsidered what I said and an XP90 really isn't designed for fanless use. But with a low-speed panaflo or nexus it would be very, very quiet.

I do agree that a Scythe Ninja would be great for fanless applications tho.

Scythe Ninja or a xp-90c with a 92mm Nexus Real Silent Fan (27 cfm/19 dba)... I'm using a xp-90 with the 92mm nexus fan right now, 50 C load, 38 C idle... not bad... With an overclocked opteron 165 at 2.7 Ghz so far...

I would suggest the Artic Freezer Pro 64. It is super quiet and performs really well. I personally just got the xp90 with a zalman 92 fan hooked up to my front fan controller. It's not quiet I would say but I could easily reduce the noise on the fly if I wanted to. My temps are 48C under load and 30C idle. I haven't burnt in the AS5 yet so hopefully the temps drop a bit.

So I suggest to you the Arctic Freezer Pro 64. If you think it's ugly or whatever, then get the xp90. I think it looks damn sexy! =X

The heatsink itself is never noisy, it's the fan.

Scythe Ninja if you want silent. If you have decent airflow too, it'll beat most things. Scythe Ninja, no fan, or get a low RPM one. Scythe 800rpm one for example. Or a Nexus. The ninja doesn't need much airflow to cool well. And if you're running stock, you could probably get away with no fan at all.

I favor the XP-90 which is good enough, the XP/SI-120 for those who want a 120mm fan (for more airflow or for quiet systems), and the Scythe Ninja.

A sonic tower would be able to cool the thing almost pasive, a slow 120mm fan on and it cools really well, thats what i have and the temp rarely go above 48C, thats with my overclock, dual prime, full gfx load as well as doing other stuff.

Thanks. I'm torn between the Freezer 64 Pro and the Scythe Ninja. Would the Ninja provide adaquate cooling in fanless mode at stock temps? I have a CM stacker with one 120mm intake and two 120 exaust fans. If I can get good temps with a fanless Scythe Ninja im tempted to get one.

yeap that's what i run with a dead slow 12cm fan
