I need a pair of small Bose-esque speakers for surrounds

I figured I'd throw the word Bose in there to get attention. :)

Basically, I want to have two speakers for my surround sound, but I really don't want them to be typically bookshelf size, since I think I'm gonna wall-mount them. Do they sell satellite-esque speakers in pairs, that I can get w/o buying a complete home theater system? I did a quick inventory check on circuitcity.com and bestbuy.com and really didn't see anything small.

Best Buy has these small KLH satellite speakers. I think they were $49 for the pair. They look pretty good and come with mounts though I'd recommend buying sturdier wall mounts.

I'm using them as front speakers for our plasma screen, and I coupled them with the micro-flat speaker wire from Acoustic Research for a more seamless install :)

I have the ones that Amnesiac is talking about. I got 3 pieces: 2 surrounds and 1 center. The retail price was $99, but I got mine free a while back with the purchase of a receiver.

The seem to do the job, but I can't fully evaluate them right now, since I just got them set up 2 nights ago.

edit: Okay, they're not the exact same as what Amnesiac mentioned, but they're the same brand (KLH). I think that my package was a combination of this and these.

They do just fine for rear surrounds. As front/main speakers they're kind of lacking because of the crappy frequency response but considering all that's watched on this TV is news in the morning and evening, I can't complain.

I'll definitely look into these speakers. I do own a KLH sub, which does a good enough job, so these should be fine for rears. Thanks.

It looks like they come with wall mounts. Is this correct? Are they sturdy enough?

I picked up some Advent speakers for the same price from Costco that have better specs than those KLH's do, IIRC. You may want to check that out if you or a buddy is a member. I'd link them, but they're not listed on the stupid Costco site.

Edit- by "specs" I mean they have better freq response and can handle more power. They also come with a very sturdy mounting system.

Heh, I knew I had helped you out with something awhile back, but i couldn't remember what. I did a search, and sure enough I had recommended the KLH sub for $99 at Costco to ya. What goes around comes around eh? :D Did you buy that sub?

The wall mounts suck. THey're just metal tabs you screw into the wall.
I'd recommend buying the heavier ones that Best Buy sells.

I can personally vouch for Acoustic Research's Edge speakers. You won't find a better value for this < $100.00/pr. price. The mounting brackets are beefy and VERY flexible in the amount of adjustability they have. They come in black or white, so they're unobtrusive, no matter where they're mounted. You can even use them outdoors, so if you buy a better set later, these would be perfect in your garage, patio or by the pool. Can't miss!

Edit Bah! Lowest current price I can find is $130.00 /pr. at Crutchfield

Nope, not yet. I need to finish paying off all the Xmas bills before I can buy any toys. Wife went apesh*t buying stuff this year. :(

Any other suggestions? I'm currently thinking I'll look into those Advents at Costco, but I prob. won't go until Sunday. The ARs look nice, but I wasn't planning on spending that much for surrounds. If they were under $100, I'd def. consider 'em.

I wish you could audition those ARs. If you're like me, those speakers will be floating around your home for decades. A few bucks now won't be missed when you're still enjoying them in 2020. Well, that's how I look at it. Don't ask what my personal debt is, though!

Hmm... after finding out that my friend spent $300 on his surrounds, $129 doesn't seem so bad. :) Ornery, did you pay <$100 for yours?

From reading reviews, it seems that they were readily available at ubid.com a while back for $68. But they don't seem to be selling there anymore. :(

Whatever you buy, be mindful of matching your receiver to the speakers. Putting a hundred watts into a speaker that can handle only 50 could get pretty ugly.
