I Need A New Television Series To Watch

I usually don't watch anything unless it has a couple of seasons out on DVD already. I have heard good things about The Wire, and took a chance and rented the first disc tonight. I am waiting for season three of BSG to move to the dollar rental shelves before renting that one, I have watched everything up to that point.

Are there any series that stand out in your mind as being exceptional?

The Office (US version, the UK version is only good if you prefer dry British humor)
Scrubs
House
Seinfeld
Firefly (hopefully you've seen this already...)
Buffy the Vampie Slayer (maintains a strong cult following despite certain seasons being utter crap, but good on the whole)
Battlestar Galactica (the modern version)
Robot Chicken (comedy)
Band of Brothers (I've heard good things but haven't seen it yet myself)
Six Feet Under (I just recently got into this, almost through season one, it's good)

Robot Chicken. :D

Darn, it was already suggested.

In that case, "Seconded."

For a comedy series, no one pays much attention to How I Met Your Mother, but it's fscking hilarious.

Have you seen Arrested Development or Curb Your Enthusiasm? Both are great shows, highly recommended if you liked Seinfeld.

Lol, when I saw your title, my first reaction was, "No you don't!"

But when I saw that you go series by series on DVD, I understood.

Just want to echo some suggestions that have already been made:

1. If you haven't yet seen the Band of Brothers mini-series, it is the one "must view" pick here. It will move you more than you could ever know beforehand.

2. Six Feet Under is by far the most singular show here, but beware. If you like it, you'll really, reall like, but it you don't, then ditto.

3. Of several good comedy series listed, Arrested Development is the best, imho.

All three above are dead and gone from production and thus readily available on DVD.

Yeah, my television isn't even hooked up to an antennae. Just a DVD player, VCR, and game consoles. :p

I agree, Rules of Engagement is a favorite of mine as well if you can ignore david spade. Patrick Warburton is hilarious in it.

House
The Office
Rome
Dexter
Entourage
The Tudors
Deadwood
Arrested Development
How I Met Your Mother (first couple of seasons)
Prison Break (1st seasons only)
'Til Death
Boston Legal (1st couple of seasons, it's gotten really preachy lately)
Nip/Tuck (1st couple of seasons)

Personally I would avoid:
LOST (started off promising but it's now a meandering shit show of one ridiculous thing after another)
24 (Started off strong the first couple of seasons, the last seasons was horrendous)
The Unit (had promise but too much emo family shit and not enough killing)
