I need a new LCD <$550 at least 1280x1024

Are apple cinema displays compatible w/ PCs? I want something sleek, high quality, and hi res. I'll go up to $550 just to give a range....

Any suggestions?

I'd recommend either a good 20/21" non-widescreen 1600*1200 display or a 23/24" widescreen @ 1920*1200.

I don't recommend 19-21" widescreens. Why? Vertically just small, plus resolution is problematic - if e.g. a game doesn't support ws, on a 1920*1200 monitor you can always play @ 1600*1200 with black vertical bars. On a smaller 1680*1050 ws, it's a bit screwed IMO - if you don't want scaling and can't play in native res, the options are 1280*1024 or 1280*960 - both with black bars not only vertical but also horizontal.

In general, despite the flood of positive opinions here, I do not recommend 1680*1050 monitors.

I have a 2005FPW and sometimes game at 1280x1024, tbh I find the black bars pretty unobtrusive, its only 13 pixels top and bottom.

OTOH I would have definitely done for a larger screen if not for the price (I guess this is stating the obvious).

I :heart: my 2005FPW. The bars seem OK to me and when Dell runs a deal you can get it dirt cheap (buy a $35 off $300 copuon off eBay if you go the Dell route).

well yeah they are. but the least expensive on, the 20in. one, start at $799. still want one?
i'd get the dell Ultra Sharp 2005FPW. it's 20.1 in. and comes at ~$500.
