The new Mustang Bullitt is "different", but you're really paying for the Cool factor, not performance.

<< How about a Honda Accord value pack for about $15k? You could add a VTEC badge for $14 and automatically gain 15 "Mental Horsepower". Oh, wait. You'll need a 4 in. exhaust tip. That straight 4 REALLY needs to breathe. How about a bookshelf wing? You'll be going so fast you need a horizontal stabilizer to keep your car on the ground. If you opt for the V6, dont even think about taking it out on public highways, cops will be all over you, that's only for the racetrack. And dont forget the following: Interga R-Type badge (another 15 mental horsepower) YELLOW stickers proclaiming: Saleen, Shelby, supercharged, et al, basically awful stickers defacing your car with things that dont exist. Dont forget underbody moldings, neon, and dashboard trim that doesent match the rest of the interior. >>

ok, you are officially useless.

id say go for a TA, i love those birds.

supra if you can find a 96 somewhat new/good condition (start praying, and 97 werent in manual, right?)

I'd beg to differ on that one. 13.66@100mph. Don't listen to what Ford tells you, that number was achieved by a Ford employee at Commerce, GA. The car had drag slicks on the back, but still -- damn quick. Compare it to a Mustang GT and it's even quicker.

The rated HP doesn't tell the whole story. You gotta look at the dyno plots and see how much the engine mods helped out. Torque curve is MUCH smoother on the Bullit vs. the GT. Having more power available throughout the RPM range is what really helps out.

It is alot of money over a GT, but it's not just the 'looks' that are adding to that pricetag. Quite a bit of performance difference as well.

Well, Saturday morning I'm going to Jerome Duncan, in the Detroit area. Going to drive some Cobras, GT's, and Saleens. Anyone have some tips for getting a good deal? I don't really have a problem going w/a used one as long as it's super low miles. That way you can get more car for the money. :) So throw me some tips, never really done this before.

thanks

Well, I'd reconsider and see if you could find a used Lightning. Yes, its a truck... but go drive one and you'll understand. :)

If you want to talk a person down, check out all possible exterior features. Check the tread on the tires, check the paint to see if you can find any major scratches. Pop up the hood and check out all the fluids, ask for maintenece records. Then drive it. See how the clutch and tranny feel. Check the play in the steering collum(if any), take it on a strait road and make sure the alignment is good. Also be sure to check all the interior seating, dash, radio, ect...

Just some general tips. I was looking at a SVT Contour and I checked out the car for a good 20 minutes before talking to anyone about it.

Again, look at a lightning :) :D

Perry - interesting, I didn't know the additional engine mods had helped out that much.

Well we wouldn't keep it for that long. Probably 3 years or so.
Looking for the best price

If you don't plan on keeping it you might just want to lease it and turn it back into the dealer 3 years down the road for something a bit better.

I live in southern Michigan, and I've hit no fewer than five deer. I'm not an idiot driver, the bastards sprint out into the road like a flash. They make me want to get a Block Permit (mass killing) and buy an AK.

Anyway, I have no commments on Ford products;)

My dad has been out looking at stangs and found a dealer selling a black Mustang Bullitt for just over $24k. That sounds like a pretty good deal to me, too bad he is just looking.

megatexel- ya know, it sounds like to me you know what you already want. Just about everyone's suggestions you have shot down.

You obviously want a Saleen or a Cobra, go get a damn Saleen or a Cobra! You only live once, might as well be happy doing it.

not super sure about these numbers so correct if I'm wrong:

0-60 times:
Cobra ~5.5
Camaro SS ~5.0

Again, I saw those in a mag... dont know how accurate... just throwing it out because you asked :)... good luck!

Well I just got my new C&D today. The 2001 Cobra does 0-60 in 4.8. (from their tests) You guys think the 99 Cobra w/ the fix would be just as fast? Or is the 2001 much different? I really like the new seats, wheels, and in-dash CD player. But for like $5000 less I could get a 99 w/low miles. Tuff call here.
